Are you feeling anxious that you might not be able to handle this big life challenge with your physical & emotional wellbeing, authenticity, and serenity still intact? Hopeful that you can come out on the other side of it with new growth & wisdom? Struggling to navigate life and find fulfillment, love, & belonging as someone who's “different”, even from some of the people & communities you love most? Overwhelmed, disconnected, unseen, unheard, or unfulfilled in your relationships? Wrestling with whispers of shame, and wondering “Am I enough? Am I good enough?" I believe that we're all broken, wounded, and whole (yes, all three!), and that it's your wounds that make you beautiful. That you don't have to believe every story your brain tells you. That you're resilient and you can handle more than you think you can. That you're enough. With 15+ years’ experience, I’m especially passionate about working with caregivers, LGBTIQA+ folks, & people struggling with codependence or with a major life change. As a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), I have many years experience helping people impacted by brain injury or stroke. I particularly enjoy working with identity or culture "straddlers", folks who have some kind of significant difference in identity or way-of-life from their family of origin or "home" community —class, education attainment, religion, politics, geographic, or rural-urban, to name a few. (A surprising number of struggles can be attributed to or exacerbated by having this particular life experience!) My clients say they feel deeply seen, heard, & understood, without judgment, but rather with positivity & gentle accountability for taking steps toward their goals, at their own pace. Together, we'll create a shared understanding of what you want to be different, and what’s getting in your way. Then, with me as your co-pilot, we’ll gain insights, learn strategies, and find healing...and set out on a path toward the life that you're yearning for. I invite you to take that brave first step: reach out and let's start a conversation!
Life can present you with difficult situations which are hard to process and move past. These challenges are not on your timeline and affect everything. Having worked in many healthcare settings, I am familiar navigating life-changing events and grief. I understand the territory of encountering loss, coping with trauma, the complexity of the medical system and living with illness. Together we will face any changes, fears, anxiety and emotions you are experiencing, allowing you to gain more grounding and peace. I will work with you from an integrative, holistic approach to determine together what is needed for your coping, healing and self-care.
Psychotherapy can help you claim and enjoy more in your life. We can all use help in finding our way at different times in our lives. You may be ready for more happiness in your life, more satisfaction, creativity, success, confidence, peace, friendships - or greater depth to your relationships. You may not have been able to find it on your own. I have experience, training, compassion and a mindful approach that can help you develop traction on the path that is truly yours. My focus is on helping you develop your ability to see yourself, your circumstances and your challenges with a fresh eye, allowing your to create the changes in your life that you really want. To the work that we can do together, I bring over fifteen years of experience as a psychotherapist, plus a depth of understanding from my experience as a husband and father and from my experience as a firefighter and paramedic. The work that I do is not about being broken or ill; it is about being more alive: * Shifting away from negative anticipation and belief in powerlessness, toward actualizing your own authentic power and vitality * Increasing creativity in your life * Living a life infused with clarity as to the abundance available to you, on place of an expectation of scarcity * Discovering the relief and pleasure in living authentically, honestly, as the "real you" * Feeling your feelings, all of them, more fully and with less fear * Finding the pleasure of taking relationships to a deeper level; enlivening friendships and reinvigorating relationships gone stale * Moving beyond the pain of the past - physical, emotional, spiritual or otherwise; letting go of outdated, limiting ideas or beliefs about yourself and finding joy in being alive. You can do this. We'll work to get you there.

I help individuals and couples navigate anxiety, grief, and relationship conflict with compassion, clarity, and direction. Whether you're in the middle of a crisis or just feeling numb and disconnected, therapy can be a space to reset. I use evidence-based techniques, paired with a healthy dose of empathy and occasional humor, to help clients feel both seen and supported. Are you struggling with social anxiety, relationship challenges, or a general sense of unease that makes it hard to fully enjoy life? Perhaps anxiety is getting in the way of what is important to you, you are having difficulty finding or maintaining healthy relationships, or you are struggling to understand (much less communicate) your emotions, wants, and needs. As a result, you may be feeling overwhelmed, lost, stuck, unfulfilled, or inadequate. If so, then I can help: I specialize in working with people who are not getting what they want or need out of relationships (including their relationship with themselves). Together, we will explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be influencing your current struggles, while developing new, practical skills. We may work on altering negative self-talk, improving your relationships (e.g., setting boundaries, improving communication), developing tools to help manage anxiety, or exploring what gives life meaning for you. To help determine whether working together would be a good fit, the next step is to schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation—no pressure, just a conversation. You can schedule online by going to my website, send me a message (best way to reach me), or give me a call. I will get back to you very quickly, usually within 24 hours!
Do you ever feel like there's an instruction book to life that everyone got but you? Does it seem like everyone else "has it all together" and you're just trying to fake your way through life? Not a good feeling, is it? Believe it or not, you're not alone, and you're not as bad as you think. You've learned ways to think and feel about yourself that made sense in the past, but they aren't working so well now. I specialize in helping my clients identify their unhelpful ways of thinking and feeling so they can choose to think and feel differently about themselves and improve their self-esteem. I also help clients to process traumatic experiences, both "big T" traumas (like combat, sexual and physical assaults, and car accidents), and "little T" traumas (like negative interactions that lead to a poor self-image). Contact me today so I can help you to understand why you shouldn't believe everything you think!
It can be daunting to make the decision to reach out and contact a therapist. Just by doing this, you are already taking the first step towards reaching your goals. Whether you are seeking counseling for yourself or for your child, taking the initiative can be scary. I work to create a positive and supportive environment in order to alleviate some of those fears. I believe that therapy should not be a space where you have to worry about being judged. As a counselor, I believe it is my role to give you unconditional positive regard. This doesn’t mean that I will never challenge you or give you a dose of reality, but instead that I will never judge you for simply being who you are. Going to therapy and opening up to a stranger can be scary, but together we can work towards getting you to where you want to be. In addition to individual and couples work, I also work with preteens, teens, and their families to develop effective communication while also focusing on your teen’s growth, identity development, thoughts, and emotions. Being a teenager can be an exciting, confusing, and scary time. The support of a trained therapist allows for a safe, nonjudgmental space for teens to process life's hardships, learn more about who they are, and gain the skills they need to navigate the future. I believe that empathy and building the therapeutic relationship is the biggest factor in the work we can do together. While I bring a person-centered approach and mindfulness into almost all of my sessions, I don’t believe therapy is one-size-fits-all. This means that I will always take into account individual situations and preferences to make sure our time together is focused on your or your teen’s unique needs and goals. I am trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ allied, sex-worker allied, and multi-culturally focused.
I believe that people are naturally resilient. Therapy offers an opportunity is to boost resilience by nurturing awareness and finding greater fulfillment and strength. Most of us have found ways to manage stress and conflict, but the things that worked in the past might not work today. We often feel stuck. I seek to provide a space for observation, reflection, and exploration so that new narratives and choice can emerge. Understanding the linkages between early, implicit learning experiences, including attachment patterns, and present modes of thinking and behaving is key to sustainable growth and change. Together we'll work to improve your flexibility, self-regulation, and choices for solving life's problems. I work with adults, children, adolescents, and couples. With couples, I help to identify patterns that promote increased mutual understanding and connection. I offer adolescents joint sessions with parents and other family members to promote more effective ways of communicating. My experience with school-based consultation and assessment offers a solid framework for coordinating with counselors and teachers, when appropriate.
