Throughout our lives, we go through events that change us, often permanently. I consider therapy to be a sacred and compassionate space of exploration. It can be exhausting having to explain your story over and over again. Oftentimes we might feel unheard in our daily lives or get fixated on who we “should be” instead of exploring who we already are. Your story has meaning and it deserves to be heard. You are the expert on your own life experiences and identities. You deserve to feel empowered, validated, and safe. When meeting with a potential client I consider you in the context of your relationships. When working together we can move through difficult therapeutic concepts in an accessible and warm way. With your permission, I hope to guide you through challenging life transitions and support you in creating a life that you feel is worth living. As an art therapist, I use my lived experiences with disability to cultivate empathy and create environments where people can become empowered through art-making, reduce internalized stigma, and experience a sense of belonging. It is my personal belief that art materials are a way to connect with other people, process difficult experiences, and work through emotions. I work from a collaborative, person-centered, relational, and strengths-based approach. This means I will use non-judgment to consider all aspects of your life and identity— while remaining open to things that cannot be changed. I utilize an intersectional feminist lens and I specialize in trauma, anxiety, boundaries, relationships, abuse, sexuality, gender exploration, life transitions, disability, memory loss, identity exploration, and resiliency work.

Hello and welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois, and I’m so glad you’re here! I am Somatic and Attachment Focused (SAFE) EMDR-Certified integrated therapist, with a School Social Worker PEL, though currently work with schools as a Consultant. I come into therapy with a central focus on compassion, connection, and safety. I am a Polyvagal Informed and Neurophysiology and neurofeedback, biofeedback, and tools for healing the point of (mal)adaptive patterned Nervous System because it is under these conditions that we find we can think at our best. It also means we learn as we are calm and safe, so we aren't on constant hypervigilance. When we build a safe space, clients begin to understand that the healing they desperately seek, is within them... Coaches and therapists may guide them or facilitate a path through motivational interviewing, and then teach mindfulness to allow observation by separating from the experience of whatever we're holding onto. Polyvagal theory explains an evolved Nervous System, which goes beyond the Default Mode Network, to include the Social Engagement System. Not only does it help explain what may be going on as challenging and overwhelming emotions come up. It allows ways to move through them. We practice; we use PVT informed tools that are integrated deeply, and allow for the process to move at the pace of the slowest part of the system of each client. Many other therapies are involved than the ones I mention, because, for example, we use mindfulness to notice our patterns that may have once saved us, now cause more harm. We use CBT, as we learn about Cognitive Distortions, and often ACT, values and action oriented, and often DBT, daily tools for emotion regulation. I am the founder of Liminal Horizons, PLLC. I am also a leader at Sensing Fields. One is primarily for psychotherapy, supervision, Consultations for school systems and Communities (and individuals), and finally agree in significant challenges stemming from Survival Patterns. We use Somatic Parts Work, IFS, Clinical Emotional Freedom Technique, Neuropsychotherapy, and neurophysiology, including neuro and biofeedback for uses such as enhancing the depth and speed of the healing. Polyvagal Inspired Protocols are two of the options clients offer, the Safe and Sound Protocol and the Integrated Listening System (there is an extra charge to use a license). They are actively being researched, and show amazing results so far, from helping build a wider window of tolerance. If it feels like we ALL need healing, you are intuitive! To succeed, a global movement must occur. WE ARE NOT THERE, and THIS doesn't mean it's your responsibility. My goal and mission is to ensure access to those who want to understand their strong feelings, health problems, emotional and physical pain (which show up in the same part of the brain) can do so. Anyone who is ready to feel better, lower emotional 'triggers' and physical pain, want to feel less stressed, and more gratitude and joy, YOU ARE In The RIGHT PLACE. Mental Health involves so many more factors than we realized, until very recently. I promise that you can heal. I have been through a vey low bottom, and I have healed. There's more to go; it's a journey. I am honored to share things I've learned and am excited about 'ripple effects' of healing individuals and then communities, and onward and upward.
If you find yourself facing challenges related to mood concerns, body image distress, obsessive compulsive disorders, eating disorders, trauma, identity crisis, racial & cultural trauma, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, bigotry, religious trauma, and substance use, my help and support are available to you. Focusing on the present, let us work together to make changes that will hold space for personal growth and cultivate contentment, congruence, joy, stability, forward movement, and fulfilment. Navigating life's setbacks, challenges, and adversities can absolutely take a toll on our wellbeing and ability to function, which is why it is important to know that you do not have to work through these concerns alone. I believe in the power of healing through promoting self-awareness, autonomy and empowerment, and also in people's strength to move towards change. Though suffering is a part of life, something that all humans share, working to manifest helpful and sustainable coping mechanisms, and skills that will work to serve you long term makes a difference in the quality of life a person experiences. I work from a Health at Every Size (HAES) and humanist framework, observing individuals as a whole, and when it comes to the war against body discrimination and terrorism, I believe in working to enhance radical acceptance through promoting self-contentment, end weight discrimination by identifying the underlying and overlying systems of oppression, dismantling those systems, and working against the cultural obsession with diet culture, and the pursuit of thinness and perfection. I believe in concepts such as radical self-love, self-trust, self-awareness, radical-acceptance, freedom, agency, self-compassion, and self-actualization to help guide individuals to fulfill their potential and maximize their wellbeing. I utilizes a variety of evidence-based therapies including the Person Centered approach to foster the trust building process and increase client autonomy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My experience resides in working with Adult, Elderly, and adolescent Individuals
I see therapy as a space where you can slow down and feel fully seen. My style is warm, relational, and straightforward; I want you to feel comfortable bringing your whole self, without judgment or pressure. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and narrative therapy, weaving them together in a way that fits your unique needs and story. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, carrying cultural or relational stress, or working on strengthening your relationships, I aim to offer steady support, practical tools, and a grounded space to make sense of what you’re going through. Together, we’ll focus on helping you feel more rooted, understood, and able to move forward in ways that feel true to you.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by day to day life? Are you starting to think the changes you want to make are out of reach? Do you find yourself talking to family and friends only to hear yourself talk but feeling as if you aren’t getting anywhere? Choosing therapy can bring you out of the cycle. Working collaboratively with a therapist who is objective, focused on you, and helping you develop realistic strategies and plans, can help! I enjoy working with people who want to develop increased self-awareness and gain more skills to maintain genuine, lasting changes. In addition to models of therapy that you may be familiar with, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I have training in techniques such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and EMDR, which use sensory input to process emotions. This is especially useful when working with trauma and anxiety. If you are seeking a faith-based approach, my training in both counseling and theology has helped equip me to integrate spirituality and psychology when this is requested. Since you are considering counseling, I imagine you desire to make some changes in your life. I look forward to working with you and would be honored to accompany you during this portion of your journey.
I provide online therapy and work with clients and couples ready to combine self-awareness with practical, solution-focused steps. You may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, or stress, and you’re seeking clarity: Who am I really, and how do I start living like it? You’re ready to stop spinning your wheels and begin healing at the root—building self-trust, mindfulness, and a life aligned with your core values, rather than society’s expectations. In addition to psychotherapy, I also provide assessments. I blend mindfulness, psychodynamic approaches, depth psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and liberation psychology. Our work will feel focused yet spacious, balancing insight with practical, actionable steps you can take in between sessions to heal in and out of session. You'll gain coping tools, shift behavior, and reconnect with your value system. Sessions are warm, direct, and built around your lived experience. Ultimately, my aim is to help people slow down, see clearly, and create meaningful change grounded in what “is.” Leaning on years of training and a diversity of theoretical approaches, we’ll build clarity, confidence, and control. With plenty of experience training other therapists and a decade-long Buddhist practice, I bring clinical depth and deep presence. For more on my background, I highly recommend going to my website: Brodericksawyer.com. My diverse clinical training is only a part of what I offer clients, as my diverse lived experiences as a person of color, college athlete, and 10-year Buddhist practitioner all inform my perspectives on doing, being, and healing. I ultimately strive to meet clients where they’re at, providing a warm, relatable, and solution-focused experience with depth. In therapy, I help people apply a range of tools for growth, liberation, connection, self-alignment, and peace. Feel free to go to my website to learn more. I look forward to connecting!
