It is extremely important to me that therapy be an emotionally safe space for my clients where they will have the support they need to grow and change. I work to balance validation with providing education, constructive feedback, and skill building.

Greetings! I am Danielle Crane, Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. My focus areas include Anxiety, Coping Skills, Depression, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, etc. When providing services, I use a variety of clinical approaches targeted to the specific needs of the individual. Most often, I use Person-Centered, Strength-Based, and Solution-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy theoretical approaches.
My approach to therapy is down-to-earth, practical, and solution-oriented. As a clinical psychologist I have extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and have seen many clients improve using these techniques. I have helped people overcome their problems in a variety of settings including hospitals, university counseling centers, community health clinics, and schools.
In my practice, I work with adults, defined as approximately age 20 and older. I work with individual clients, with couples, and with groups. In group therapy, the clients are almost always in individual therapy as well, with me, with my co-therapist, or with another therapist who has referred the client to the group. I work with clients presenting a variety of issues, including: *Depression Relationship Issues *Life Transitions *Anxiety *Addictive Behaviors *GLBT Issues *Anger *Grief and Loss *Sense of Self/Self-Esteem *Men's Issues *Trauma and PTSD *Partners of Abuse Survivors *Adult Children of Alcoholic/Dysfunctional/Abuse Families *Couples Issues, including Re-Marriage, Extramarital Relationships, and Step-Families I have had experience working with diverse groups of people. I have been a consulting psychologist to an orthodox yeshiva, I have worked with Catholic seminarians, I have taught and supervised trainees in a largely Catholic Pastoral Counseling program, and I have taken numerous workshops in working with Gay, Bi, and Lesbian, and Questioning clients. In addition, I have been involved in Multicultural work since 2001, and seek to keep an open mind and continuously question my assumptions about people whose lives are different from mine. I believe that psychotherapy is an interactive process that calls for both the client and the therapist to be as fully involved as possible. Therefore, I participate actively with my patients, sharing my thoughts, impressions, and reactions to what we are talking about. I believe that people can change even long-standing patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior if THEY participate actively. My job is to create a space where clients can be curious and learn about the ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that they bring to their lives, and about how these ways work for them and against them. I create this space by bringing both my professional training and understanding and my human compassion, empathy, and respect. In my practice, I typically meet with people once a week; if there is a need for additional support, or if we decide together that more intense work is called for, meeting twice a week can be very useful. Even meeting once a week allows clients to develop enough comfort with me and with therapy for our work to be effective and helpful. Regarding my theoretical grounding, I have intensive training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, and Existential therapeutic approaches, and I draw from each of these as the client's situation, needs, and goals call for. Some therapists subscribe to and identify with one school of thought and apply that way of thinking and working to every client. I first work to understand each client's particular issues, needs, and style of thinking and feeling. THEN, I use the approach and methods that I believe would be most useful to that patient, and remain open to using whatever else might work based on what develops. Therefore, my orientation is eclectic, and my methods are determined by the client's personality and needs.
Life in DC is demanding. I have helped numerous people who are struggling to manage the professional responsibilities of highly competitive jobs while also trying to navigate challenges in their romantic lives. The people I most commonly work with are bright, motivated professionals who are experiencing significant anxiety trying to meet the expectations of others and may be finding it difficult to carve out emotionally rewarding relationships and experiences. Many people who reach out are also struggling with symptoms of depression and inability to fully find meaning in their lives. If this sounds familiar, I can help you identify and challenge unconscious negative beliefs that may be creating anxiety and interfering with your ability to take active steps towards meaningful goals. The people I work with report feeling greater clarity and confidence, and an improved ability to lead a life consistent with their values.
My communication style is warm, open, and empathetic. I strive to create a safe space where you feel comfortable expressing yourself without fear of judgment. I believe in the power of active listening and am committed to understanding your unique experiences and perspectives.
I have a deep regard and respect for a person who is on a healing journey. I look at each person individually. You come with your own unique life experiences and health goals. Through assessment and goal setting, we come up with your own unique treatment plan. My belief is we are total system and my approach is to support you in a Holistic matter; Body, Mind, and Spirit; using powerful tools, skill building, and compassion. My goal is to be a partner for you to achieve well-being.
Welcome! You’ve taken a wonderful first step in getting the support you or a loved one may need! Life can be complex and challenging, especially for children, teens, young adults, and individuals with chronic illnesses or developmental, behavioral, and intellectual challenges. If this resonates with you or someone you care about, or if you’re seeking behavioral or mental health support for yourself or a minor in your care, I am here to help. As a therapist, my goal is to create a warm, judgment-free space that empowers clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, work towards mutually established goals, and build skills. During sessions, I encourage clients to be themselves and do what they need to feel present. If you want to color, sit on the floor, wear comfortable clothes, play a game, or use a fidget toy, feel free to do so! I strive to use inclusive, neurodivergent, sensory-friendly, and developmentally appropriate techniques and treatments tailored to each client.
Being part of your personal journey is such a privilege. There is nothing more satisfying than watching clients reclaim their lives and truly transform. Therapy and peak performance psychology is about empowerment and accessing your inner potential. It’s about realizing your strengths and applying those inner resources to overcome what has been holding you back. It’s about challenging self-limiting beliefs and gaining insight into the obstacles that are getting in your way, learning how to remove them and applying that insight to make the changes necessary to achieve your goals. I work differently with every client offering a tailored approach to your unique needs and goals. I don’t do “one size fits all” or overly generalized approaches. My goal is not to merely band-aid a symptom or maintain the status quo because we can accomplish so much more than that. Our focus will be on resolving your concerns at the core so that you can truly THRIVE with a sense of freedom and power. I have a passion for the mind body connection, enhancing peak performance and psychophysiological approaches to treatment. I apply a whole person (360 degree) perspective that promotes healing for both the mind and body as well as increased performance and optimal functioning. I would describe my style as an insight-oriented approach that is warm, genuine, laid back and thought-provoking. I value authenticity, keeping it real, and a good sense of humor. My clients tell me I’m very personable, compassionate and accepting, which puts them immediately at ease. Sessions with me are casual, comfortable and feel conversational in nature. I work best with clients who are insightful, motivated to make a change, and want to work hard to achieve their goals.
I help people change through developing a greater awareness for all of themselves, which allows them greater resources to deal with the struggles that they are experiencing. As clients develop greater awareness of themselves, including their wants, needs, emotions, and ways of relating to others, they tend to develop a wider range of choices in their lives. They learn to recognize what they do that keeps them from being their best selves. They also learn to tap into and use their own internal wisdom to help guide their choices, developing a greater authenticity in their lives. In relationships, couples and families develop greater intimacy and ability to use conflict to further their relationship through their greater awareness of themselves and their other family members. People I work with also learn with guidance and coaching to experiment with new ways of being with themselves and others in the world, which furthers their growth and development into more happy, fulfilled human beings. As an experienced psychotherapist and former graduate psychology professor, I have developed a wide range of expertise in helping others. I am honored and humbled by the courage and spirit of the people I work with and the struggles they face. I feel privileged to help people come to terms with pain, face challenges, and change their lives.
If you’ve been through something hard—like trauma, loss, or a stressful life event—you might feel stuck, sad, anxious, or unsure of what to do next. You are not alone. I’m here to help. I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland, and I’ve been helping people through tough times for almost 10 years. I work with adults who are dealing with posttraumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, depression, grief, and other mental health challenges. I use a therapy called cognitive processing therapy (CPT). It’s a type of talk therapy that helps you understand how trauma may have changed the way you think about yourself, other people, and the world. Sometimes, people blame themselves for what happened, or believe things like, “I’m not safe,” or “It was all my fault.” In therapy, we work together to find more helpful and true ways of thinking. My style as a therapist is kind, easy to talk to, and never judgmental. You can be yourself in our sessions. I believe that healing happens when you feel safe, respected, and understood. I will always meet you where you are and help you move at your own pace. You don’t need to have all the answers before starting therapy. You just need to be open to taking the first step. Whether you want short-term help or want to work on things more deeply, I’m here to support you. I offer both in-person and online sessions, depending on what works best for you. If you're ready to start healing or just want to learn more, I’d be glad to talk with you.
I am an internationally-known couples therapist, workshop presenter, and clinical trainer. In 2010, I founded the Tikkun Learning Center, an educational institution through which I train, supervise, and consult therapists in Encounter-centered Couples Therapy (EcCT). EcCT is an extremely effective method with proven success in teaching couples who to re-create the magic of connection. EcCT is an integrative approach inspired by the philosophy of Martin Buber, as well as a variety of relational methodologies including Imago Relationship Therapy, Appreciative Inquiry, Re-evaluation Counseling, and Relational Neuro-biology. I have developed a unique, customized, transformational two-day private session for one couple. You will receive my full attention, expertise and mastery, and I will introduce you to the groundbreaking and pragmatic principle of the three invisible connectors: "the Space, the Bridge, and the Encounter."
