My Approach to Helping
Do you sometimes struggle with overwhelming fear and pain? Are you looking for more loving relationships in your life? Do you want to make better choices? By looking for help, you've already taken a brave and important step.
As I see it, we're all inherently moving toward our happiest, healthiest life. Not only do you deserve relief and confidence, you are already capable of it. I can help you create change by exploring both your challenges and strengths.
We'll examine your past, to see the forces that have shaped who you are, and look at your present, to see which choices are working and which are getting in your way. Together we can create a brighter, more fulfilling future.
More Info About My Practice
My practice mixes compassion, collaboration and a healthy dose of curiosity. Using an approach tailored to you specifically (including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic and strengths-based theories), I'm looking for ways to help you be kinder to yourself, work more effectively and form stronger, more authentic bonds.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Therapy is many things for many people, but to my mind it works best when it both supports and challenges. My office is a space that is devoted to making you feel safe and strengthened. It's often the one room where you can say whatever you need, without the fear of being judged. But it is also a space for exploration and provocation. We dig in--to the past, to traumas, to defenses, to ways of thinking--in order to find answers and solutions to current pain. Both of these processes work together to create meaning and to bring relief.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
I find that when people feel in control of their health decisions (including mental health), they generally lose their concerns about it. In my practice, the client leads the therapy. I try never to make assumptions about what will work best for you, but rather to collaborate with you and check in before offering any suggestions or guidance. You are the expert about your life, not me, and I feel honored that you're allowing me to walk alongside you on this journey. Making its yours and giving you control over it will help you to feel more invested in the process.
