I have a heart for helping people who are struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress-related trauma and relationships that are challenging and difficult. What we experience in our personal life often interferes with work, school and being able to enjoy life. I am passionate about encouraging people and helping them to learn new skills that will reduce their symptoms and help them to have a more fulfilling life. I believe it is important to show people you care by creating a warm and friendly environment where people are valued and feel safe. I work with adults, couples, adolescents, children (11 and older), and families.
After working and serving in this field for many years, l, Jenny Currie (founder of Fresh Start Therapy and Wellness, LLC), have come to realize that the most powerful keys to change and healing weren't the things I learned in school. They were the things I already intuitively knew. I knew that in the relationship with my clients I had to provide genuine care, honesty, acceptance, fairness, and reliability. Theories and techniques are important and can helpful, but they just aren't the most important thing. In fact, research has confirmed what i already knew. The relationship with the therapist is by far the most important component to therapy and the most important catalyst for change. I am here to support you on your therapeutic journey and consider it a privilege to walk alongside you as you take these courageous steps forward. I will go at your pace, and I will challenge you; but I will respect where you need to go and the time you need to get there. I began my career path as a teacher working with elementary, middle school, and high school students in both the regular education setting and the special education settings as a certified elementary teacher and intervention specialist. This experience gave me a broad understanding of varying mental and emotional needs of students and great experience for working with families. In addition, I have a special place in my heart for the emotional needs of teachers who do such valuable work in our classrooms. After teaching for a few years, I went back and acquired a master's degree in counseling and then obtained my LPCC. Throughout my time in the mental health field, I have worked in residential treatment facilities for those struggling with addictions, acute mental illness, and eating disorders. In addition, I have extensive experience and coursework background in working with those who have experienced trauma, including PTSD. For the last six and a half years, I have been in private practice and am expanding to serve more people in need. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques. I am EMDR trained and implement approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical-Behavior Therapy. First and foremost, I determine what would be most helpful for the client and tailor those techniques to him or her. I would be honored to work through these challenges with you.
You're likely here because you feel stuck. Perhaps you're a couple caught in the same painful arguments, or a man navigating the pressures of vulnerability and modern life. You might be struggling with intimacy, sexual concerns that bring you shame, or difficult relational patterns you can't seem to break. Taking this step to search for a therapist is an act of profound courage, and I honor the part of you that is seeking healing and growth. My practice is dedicated to providing specialized support in these key areas. I help couples reconnect and rebuild trust using emotionally focused therapy (EFT). I provide a dedicated space for men to explore their unique challenges with stress, relationships, and identity. As a trained sex therapist, I work with individuals and couples on issues from desire and performance anxiety to what is often called 'sex addiction.' I also have advanced training in helping clients understand and manage complex personality patterns like BPD and NPD traits. Across all these areas, my approach is integrative and depth-oriented. We will use insights from psychodynamic Therapy to understand the roots of your patterns, the emotional science of EFT to foster connection, and the awareness of mindfulness to build practical skills. Our work together will be warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental, creating a safe space where you can feel truly understood. The goal is to move beyond temporary fixes toward lasting change, greater self-awareness, and more fulfilling connections. The most important factor is the fit between us, so I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to help you decide if I am the right therapist for your journey.
