Individual and Couple sessions informed by attachment theory, trauma and when needed sex therapy are provided in my Columbus Circle office. I am certified in EMDR and Board Certified in Neurofeedback and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. These are 2 of the key treatment modalities recommended in the book, BODY KEEPS THE SCORE by Bessel van der Kolk, MD. My orientation to counseling and psychotherapy comes from a combination of traditional psychotherapy and the newer neurobiological approaches that integrate what has been learned about the how the brain and mind work together (or don't). Another important underpinning of my approach to this work is attachment theory. Attachment theory describes how powerful and important the need to be connected to others is for us as human beings. Sometimes during challenging childhoods, we learn ways to adapt to others that become a part of us and we can carry these sometimes counterproductive adaptations into our adulthood. The agenda of our work is set by you. At the end of our first session, I will ask whether the relationship seems workable for you. If it is, we will schedule another session. You set your goals for our work together and I give my recommendations for how to address the concerns that you have raised. Together we decide how to proceed with the work together.
Hi I’m Elsa (she, they), a NYC clinical psychologist specializing in life transitions, identity, and spirituality (meaning, purpose, and connection). I’m also passionate about serving communities that have historically experienced barriers to whole-person care including LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Asian American, and neurodivergent (gifted, 2e, autistic, highly sensitive) teens, adults, partners, and families of all kinds. My practice integrates cultural diversity, health psychology, and identity development in exploring meaning, skills enhancement, and values based living. I also believe that healing must be contextualized by systemic factors that impact each person’s unique struggles and strengths. I have been a psychotherapist for over 20 years, working with individuals couples and families. I work with individuals and families dealing with a wide range of issues, and with both traditional and non traditional families. Who ever I am working with, I pay attention to the context of people's lives and the importance of the significant relationships in our lives. As a family and couple therapist I work with the ways our interaction patterns serve to promote healing, and the ways that those patterns help to maintain problems. In difficult times both individuals and families can become focused on their problems, and the more positive parts of our lives can become diminished. I think that one of the important tasks of therapy is to help people to focus on and utilize their strengths and resources
I believe all people deserve to feel their best and realize their true potential. The individuals, couples, and families that come to me for therapy are down and out, riddled with anxiety and conflict, and looking for a new lease on life. Using my years of experience and training and a variety of specialized skills and techniques, I help each of my clients find the strength within to overcome their personal challenges. As an eclectic practitioner with many years of experience working with the full gamut of human conditions, I match the approach and combine approaches based on the particular wants and needs of each client. I partner with my clients to discover what gets in the way of their happiness and inner peace and to rediscover the lives they want to live and to live them vibrantly!
Throughout my career, I have devoted myself to mastering a broad spectrum of therapeutic tools designed to empower you on your journey toward healing and personal growth. My approach integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic techniques, and the Gottman Method Therapy, all framed within a strength perspective that underscores your innate resilience. I have supported individuals who identify as neurodivergent and BIPOC, as well as those confronting trauma, depression, anger management challenges, and couples’ issues. Together, we will create a personalized toolbox of strategies that address immediate concerns while unraveling deeper patterns. By working collaboratively, we focus on unlocking new possibilities, nurturing self-discovery, and building a solid foundation for long term well-being. Each session is carefully designed to leave you feeling truly empowered, equipped to transform obstacles into opportunities for positive change and enduring resilience.
Self-discovery and growth can feel scary; as a therapist, it's my role to support you. My approach is to help clients move through emotional discomfort, challenge unhealthy beliefs, and explore who they are while providing compassion and acceptance. Together, we can work in a solution-focused manner to help you recognize the patterns in your life or relationships that may be holding you back. I’m a trauma-informed therapist who works with individuals and couples with optimism and understanding about the challenges they face.
I strive to provide therapy within an empathetic, safe, and nonjudgmental space. Together, we will explore the patterns, motivations, and emotional blocks that are preventing you from living contentedly. Whatever your challenges: anxious loops, negative thoughts, relationship difficulties, or stressors that come with transitions, including lifestyle, career changes, and postpartum, we will work through your experiences together. I understand that every individual is unique, and therefore I will create a therapeutic environment that is catered to your needs. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy; however, I draw upon other modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques in order to address immediate discomfort, while also helping you gain personal insight that will lead to healing and growth. I graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, and received a master’s degree in mental health counseling at New York University. I welcome clients of all backgrounds and identities, and look forward to helping you on your path to insight and healing.
I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I work with clients ranging from age 9 to individuals in their late 60s. My treatment approach is integrative and client-centered, incorporating mindfulness and empathy to create a supportive and personalized therapeutic experience tailored to each client's unique needs. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds, as varied experiences help me grow as a clinician. However, I particularly enjoy working with clients in their 30s and 40s facing past trauma, maladaptive habits, and relationship challenges. They seek therapy to reduce anxiety and depression, heal, and build healthier relationships. Many recognize these struggles have persisted too long and are ready for change. This age group often has more autonomy, allowing for deeper engagement. Seeing visible progress over time makes the healing journey both rewarding and transformative. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapy, using an integrative, client-centered approach to foster personal growth, self-awareness, and emotional healing. I help clients navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and relationship difficulties by providing a safe and supportive space where they feel heard and understood. Through mindfulness techniques, empathetic guidance, and personalized interventions, I empower individuals to develop coping skills, shift unhelpful thought patterns, and build resilience. My goal is to support clients in gaining insight into their emotions and behaviors while fostering meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
I am a Certified Gestalt Psychotherapist. "Gestalt Therapy is a client-centered approach to psychotherapy that helps clients focus on the present and understand what is really happening in their lives right now, rather than what they may perceive to be happening, based on past experience." Another aspect of my practice is to provide Neurofeedback. To learn more about my work, please go to: www.EmilySRosen.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
I'm a licensed professional counselor experienced in working with adults of all ages and walks of life who are facing life transitions, struggling with self-esteem, feeling stuck and “going nowhere,” or coping with past trauma. Therapy with me is collaborative, centering you as the expert in your own life. My role may vary — compassionate witness, advocate, or a perspective shift. You’ll be able to tell your story without self-censorship, interact with difficult parts of yourself as helpful messengers rather than enemies, and experience a brave space for designing lasting change.
Frequently, people who have experienced trauma, develop extraordinary survival skills. Often the strategies that were critical for survival when you were a child, thwart the ability to develop satisfying work, family or romantic relationships in adulthood. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to transcend patterns that are holding you back from achieving your goals, and realizing your potential. This often includes addressing family, career, and relationship issues within the treatment as well as recognizing thinking or behavior which may be harmful or holding you back. I specialize in the treatment of PTSD, anxiety and depression, and am certified in EMDR, CPT and MI. Additionally I am trained in Internal Family Systems. My practice is influenced by CBT, psychodynamic, Schema and mindfulness-based therapies. We will spend our first sessions exploring important historical information, assessing your needs, and setting goals. I strive to nurture relationships with clients that are compassionate, kind, and non-judgmental, and safe enough to tolerate direct but gentle confrontation. Together we will determine the approach and pace that will work best for you.
