Hello, my name is Tina Curran-Taylor, LPC. My favorite areas of practice include trauma, addictions, depression and anxiety including all the nuanced behaviors that can present within these categories. Many people have the misconception that you must dig relentlessly into the past to release the pain or the limiting beliefs and though the past informs our current approach to life, we only want to explore as much as it takes to release the chains. With the advancement in therapeutic approaches including Emotional Freedom Techniques, Energy Psychology approaches and Internal Family Systems, we can compassionately address the pain you carry without rehashing it over and over again. My primary therapeutic approaches included Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping); Energy Psychology Techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Techniques, Internal Family System strategies, reflective listening, humor, mindfulness strategies, and writing prompts. I also will often send YouTube videos, book and website recommendations that you can access between sessions.
If you’ve been through something hard—like trauma, loss, or a stressful life event—you might feel stuck, sad, anxious, or unsure of what to do next. You are not alone. I’m here to help. I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland, and I’ve been helping people through tough times for almost 10 years. I work with adults who are dealing with posttraumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, depression, grief, and other mental health challenges. I use a therapy called cognitive processing therapy (CPT). It’s a type of talk therapy that helps you understand how trauma may have changed the way you think about yourself, other people, and the world. Sometimes, people blame themselves for what happened, or believe things like, “I’m not safe,” or “It was all my fault.” In therapy, we work together to find more helpful and true ways of thinking. My style as a therapist is kind, easy to talk to, and never judgmental. You can be yourself in our sessions. I believe that healing happens when you feel safe, respected, and understood. I will always meet you where you are and help you move at your own pace. You don’t need to have all the answers before starting therapy. You just need to be open to taking the first step. Whether you want short-term help or want to work on things more deeply, I’m here to support you. I offer both in-person and online sessions, depending on what works best for you. If you're ready to start healing or just want to learn more, I’d be glad to talk with you.
Maybe you find yourself caught in cycles of overthinking. Maybe you feel like you have to handle it all on your own, or you find yourself repeating old patterns in relationships that leave you feeling unfulfilled. You might feel stuck in a rut & unsure of how to move forward. That’s where I can help. I work with people navigating relationships, life transitions, and the practice of self-compassion—often while managing anxiety, self-doubt, or a desire for something more. My role is to help you connect with your own inner wisdom and move toward meaningful, fulfilling change. Paige views her work from a client-centered, attachment-centered, and strengths-based lens. She employs art-based, somatic (body), and talk-based interventions in her practice and aims to best serve the needs of her clients. Paige also works with her clients in practicing mindfulness and is a Registered Yoga Teacher.
In my practice, I work with adults, defined as approximately age 20 and older. I work with individual clients, with couples, and with groups. In group therapy, the clients are almost always in individual therapy as well, with me, with my co-therapist, or with another therapist who has referred the client to the group. I work with clients presenting a variety of issues, including: *Depression Relationship Issues *Life Transitions *Anxiety *Addictive Behaviors *GLBT Issues *Anger *Grief and Loss *Sense of Self/Self-Esteem *Men's Issues *Trauma and PTSD *Partners of Abuse Survivors *Adult Children of Alcoholic/Dysfunctional/Abuse Families *Couples Issues, including Re-Marriage, Extramarital Relationships, and Step-Families I have had experience working with diverse groups of people. I have been a consulting psychologist to an orthodox yeshiva, I have worked with Catholic seminarians, I have taught and supervised trainees in a largely Catholic Pastoral Counseling program, and I have taken numerous workshops in working with Gay, Bi, and Lesbian, and Questioning clients. In addition, I have been involved in Multicultural work since 2001, and seek to keep an open mind and continuously question my assumptions about people whose lives are different from mine. I believe that psychotherapy is an interactive process that calls for both the client and the therapist to be as fully involved as possible. Therefore, I participate actively with my patients, sharing my thoughts, impressions, and reactions to what we are talking about. I believe that people can change even long-standing patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior if THEY participate actively. My job is to create a space where clients can be curious and learn about the ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that they bring to their lives, and about how these ways work for them and against them. I create this space by bringing both my professional training and understanding and my human compassion, empathy, and respect. In my practice, I typically meet with people once a week; if there is a need for additional support, or if we decide together that more intense work is called for, meeting twice a week can be very useful. Even meeting once a week allows clients to develop enough comfort with me and with therapy for our work to be effective and helpful. Regarding my theoretical grounding, I have intensive training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, and Existential therapeutic approaches, and I draw from each of these as the client's situation, needs, and goals call for. Some therapists subscribe to and identify with one school of thought and apply that way of thinking and working to every client. I first work to understand each client's particular issues, needs, and style of thinking and feeling. THEN, I use the approach and methods that I believe would be most useful to that patient, and remain open to using whatever else might work based on what develops. Therefore, my orientation is eclectic, and my methods are determined by the client's personality and needs.
I believe every individual has their own strength and weaknesses. It is my hope to provide a safe and secure environment in which people can explore their emotions and reach their personal goals to find happiness. In my experience having safe and secure connection with the therapist allows individuals to truly work on their inner feelings and achieve progress.
At Laurel Fay and Associates, my colleagues and I are committed to providing you with a safe, caring environment in which we can address your unique situation. By carefully listening, I work to get behind the everyday surface of a situation to the underlying meaning. My systemic approach means I look to the dynamics between people rather than solely focusing on the internal workings of one person. Even in individual work, this approach can be helpful and empowering. I often use humor to gently but skillfully pinpoint specific issues and highlight areas of growth.
Therapy is a journey into a space where your feelings are welcomed and understood. Imagine a calm environment with soft light, warm air, and the gentle scent of lavender. This atmosphere provides comfort and ease, allowing you to settle more deeply into yourself. At the center is a mirror, not an ordinary mirror, but one that reflects your authentic self: vulnerable, radiant, and whole. In this supportive space, you are invited to recognize and accept all aspects of who you are, including your strengths, challenges, and areas of growth. Therapy becomes a process of healing and self-discovery, where you learn to embrace yourself with compassion and openness. With each passing moment, you feel yourself softening, embracing this mirror as it shows you who you truly are. And as you stand there, something shifts. You begin to uncover the pieces that make you whole, cherishing them, nurturing them, letting them grow. The journey of therapy is not just about healing; it is about discovering and embracing the profound beauty within you, piece by piece, moment by moment. In our first session, we will review essential consent forms and complete an intake questionnaire. This allows me to gather vital information about your unique experiences and needs, ensuring that our work together is tailored specifically to you. In subsequent sessions, we will collaboratively create a personalized plan aimed at helping you achieve your goals, fostering growth and healing every step of the way. You are not alone on this journey. I am here to support you in navigating the complexities of your life with compassion and understanding.

Are you struggling with social anxiety, relationship challenges, or a general sense of unease that makes it hard to fully enjoy life? Perhaps anxiety is getting in the way of what is important to you, you are having difficulty finding or maintaining healthy relationships, or you are struggling to understand (much less communicate) your emotions, wants, and needs. As a result, you may be feeling overwhelmed, lost, stuck, unfulfilled, or inadequate. If so, then I can help: I specialize in working with people who are not getting what they want or need out of relationships (including their relationship with themselves). Together, we will explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be influencing your current struggles, while developing new, practical skills. We may work on altering negative self-talk, improving your relationships (e.g., setting boundaries, improving communication), developing tools to help manage anxiety, or exploring what gives life meaning for you. To help determine whether working together would be a good fit, the next step is to schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation—no pressure, just a conversation. You can schedule online by going to my website, send me a message (best way to reach me), or give me a call. I will get back to you very quickly, usually within 24 hours!
Our approach is first and foremost to offer acceptance and understanding. Our clinicians have a variety of theoretical orientations and approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy, attachment-based therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and interpersonal therapy. All of us have training and experience with a family systems approach to therapy and are able to integrate this into our work.
I began working in this field almost 30 years ago because I wanted to make a tangible difference in people's lives. Over the years, I have worked with countless individuals, couples, families, and groups to help them improve their quality of life. Through my experience, I have learned that: Although many may appear to be similar demographically in terms of age, race, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, etc., everyone brings hisher own individual histories to therapy -- histories that distinguish each client as a unique individual. As a result, I welcome all clients, and I recognize that each client will bring hisher own history and values to therapy. I commit to working within each individual's system of values as I try to help the individual draw from hisher history to improve hisher quality of life. My two primary metrics are: a) tangible improvements in an individual's life, and b) the individual's feelings and understanding regarding change and the process of change. Like physical therapists and coaches who are willing to challenge their athletes to perform at full potential, I am willing to challenge my clients to reach their full potential in life. But my guiding philosophy is: "challenge by choice" -- I will only as far and as fast as my clients are comfortable.
