Hello, I am Dr. Tiera Williams, License Professional Counselor. As a Licensed Professional Counselor with a doctorate degree in community and care counseling who has provided mental health services to individuals and families for over 13 years. I would love to connect with you to start this fulfilling journey! My therapy approach is individualized and consists of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI) to address challenging issues. Specializing in helping individuals and families manage issues of depression, anxiety, women issues, anger management, self-esteem, behavior issues, ADHD, adjustmentmilitary, and trauma through a safe and supportive environment. I strive to help individuals meet their full potential with compassion and warmth. I encourage open and honest dialogue as I have a non-judgmental, welcoming atmosphere. As a child, I always had the desire to help others and started my career wanting to help those involved in the criminal justice system. As I began my work in the helping field, I recognized my desire to want to help others in many settings. Hence, I pursued my education to become a Professional Counseling. I am consistently energized by opportunities to help individuals in overcoming obstacles. I find it amazingly gratifying to support individuals in becoming the best version of themselves. I approach goal setting in a team effort, including the client and me, to identify the desires and needs of the client. We will realistically set goals with noticeable measures of progress to set the client up for success. The first session will include a discussion of informed consent, confidentiality, biopsychosocial assessment, and the development of a treatment plan. The assessment will consist of the client providing me with their reasoning for counseling and life history.
We are connective, social beings, and we all need support to help guide us out of the ruts in which we find ourselves. I want to empower you to harness your unique strengths, honor your values, and feel heard even if you're having trouble finding your voice. My approach respects both evidence-based and experience-based forms of wisdom. I have 10+ years of combined clinical experience and 15+ years of lived experience as a member of the LGBTQIA kink community. I have completed my Level 1 Training of Internal Family Systems (IFS). I work with couples and individual clients aged 18 and up. In addition to my training as a mental health counselor (MSEd), I hold a Doctorate of Science in Chinese Medicine (DSCM) and an acupuncture license (LAc). I also offer 1:1 coaching and professional consultations. Questions before your visit? Therapy is a journey that gives us the opportunity to find our genuine selves and ultimately become the best person we can be. Through therapy, profound and lasting change and growth can occur. I am a doctor of psychology as well as a licensed independent clinical social worker. I have deep expertise in working with addiction and recovery issues, alcoholism, as well as family, relationship, and couples issues. I have spent more than 20 years in the psychotherapy field. I work with adolescents and adults, in individual, family, and couple modalities. As a therapist, my approach to therapy is to meet you at your current place in life, and to support you to advance toward your objectives, work past obstacles, and attain supreme growth. I utilize various therapeutic approaches, comprising psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and strength-based techniques.
Many people seek guidance from a therapist because they feel overwhelmed by emotional distress, or they believe they have lost an aspect of control within their life. In a safe and non-judgmental space, I work closely with my clients in order to help them rediscover empowerment, meaning, and direction in their lives. I believe a strong relationship with your therapist is essential for successful treatment. By exploring the strength of the relationship we create together, it will help you to evaluate other important relationships in your life. While this work in therapy can be challenging, this work can help elevate your mood, relieve your anxiety, and contribute to a personal sense of fulfillment. While I offer psychotherapy services to people who are experiencing a wide range of issues, I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship issues, chronic shame, trauma, and LGBTQ+ concerns. Please feel free to be in touch with me about how I might be of help to you, and so that we can schedule an initial consultation session together. My office is located in Dupont Circle.

I bring experience working with diverse populations and issues, such as life transitions, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and career issues. As an immigrant, I understand the complexities of balancing cultures, navigating environments, and striving for success. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I’m dedicated to supporting you on your healing journey. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable discussing your experiences, needs, and goals. People enter therapy for many different reasons, but often underneath those reasons is a sense of being stuck in a physical, mental, or emotional place they don't want to be in. For relationships, people often feel stuck in negative patterns of interacting with each other or stuck in a place of pain which they blame on the other. I see myself as partnering with my clients to help them get unstuck and reach their goals for themselves or their relationships. I am active in the therapy session by helping people process more deeply what they are going through, offering new perspectives on the situation, and challenging patterns of thought or behavior that may be contributing to what's happening. I do not see people who come into therapy as sick or weak. I think it takes a lot of strength to reach out for help when times are tough. Therefore, I have respect for those who walk into my office, and I try to do everything I can to get them to where they want to be in life.
At Silk Counseling Group, we have a team of skilled therapists with diverse specialties and expertise, dedicated to helping you find the right fit for your unique needs. Let us guide you toward the support and care that works best for you.
"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." -Dr. Seuss My ability to easily relate to and connect with children and teens provides them with a comfortable space in which they can express themselves. Working with individuals and families is my passion. I believe that each child is an individual with individual needs; therefore, each treatment plan is customized to meet the unique needs of your child and family. My goal is to help children and families learn the skills necessary to have healthy, happy lives. When needed, I also work with parents and other individuals involved in the child's life by providing support, coping skills, and new ideas to help manage the difficulties the child is experiencing.
