Lisa Smith, LCSW. I offer a safe familiarity to open possibilities to life's issues. I am practical yet push a shared agenda to fray the stuck, transitional or chronic issue. I work with PTSD, SUD, process addictions, end of life, disassociation, depression and LGBTQIA+ to make it normal for you to be on your path. I practice Problem Solving, Cognitive Behavioral, Internal Family Systems, complementary alternative medicine, harm reduction and integration for support psychedelics. I will introduce what is key features in these paradigms until we find what resonates with you. You showing up in a therapeutic milieu is an exciting step. We will work for you to feel better from our first session together. We will have an agreed upon take away for you to consider in between sessions. Your commitment to yourself will grow outside of the time we spend together. I enjoy the entrenched over thinker. I invite you to find wiggle room in the super powers of ADHD. I enjoy the mature client who is carrying a medicine bag of life's tools and needs confidence to practice. All clients who are ready to prioritize and coordinate finding their "self" is an appreciated persona. I am unapologetic to offer harm reduction and integration for psychedelic medicines. Many are trying to follow the science of these illegal substances and I want to offer a space for discussion of harm reduction and integration. Being heard in a safe, nonjudgmental space gives you a stable platform for guided healing. My voice is warm and direct. I have 30 years experience of walking through our shadow selves. Selves we can reconnect with love, humor and grace. I was raised in a family of privilege with a strong sense of right and wrong. Foibles, depression, and anxiety were sources of blame and shame. Negative voices of other people's failure were normal. Support came at a cost of guilt at weakness. I discovered being supported and making small steps keep a little thing from lingering and growing. I am especially encouraged by the alternative therapies emerging. I feel antidepressants and mood stabilizers are not effective for everyone. I want to give access and information for individuals and couples to enjoy life. Goals are easy to set because they represent what brought you to therapy. At the end of each session, we make a list of what the week will look like working towards your goal. The first session is to get to know you and start a dialogue. It's the start of therapy and there will be suggestions for you to try to feel better.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Delaware and Pennsylvania with over 15 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Originally from Connecticut, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education from the University of Delaware and later obtained my Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University. My early work as a school social worker gave me a strong foundation in understanding family systems and child development. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I transitioned to virtual practice to continue providing accessible, compassionate care to clients. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of helping people navigate life’s challenges — including anxiety, depression, grief, divorce, parenting struggles, and major life transitions. My clients often describe me as warm, understanding, and easy to talk to. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a partnership, where you feel seen, heard, and supported. My approach is client-centered and collaborative. I view you as the expert on your own life and see my role as helping you uncover your strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful change. As a parent of three daughters, I understand firsthand how complex, rewarding, and challenging family life can be. I bring that perspective into my work—recognizing that while each of our journeys is unique, we all face moments of struggle, growth, and renewal. By visiting this page, you’ve already taken an important first step toward healing and self-discovery. If you’re ready to take the next one, I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey. ~Mallory
My approach is integrative, intersectional, developmental, and contextual with a basic belief in the value of connection and the power of possibility. My work pulls from principles of Intersectionality and Liberation Practices, Attachment and Relational Science, Differentiation as a Developmental process in relationships, Contextual and Systems Theories, and the essential journey of Trauma Integration across the lifespan. I understand that we are heavily shaped by our relationships, family experiences, and positionality in the social world with regard to race, culture, gender identity, sexuality, etc. My practice is relationship and sexual intimacy focused, and I've deepened my lens to include Level 1 & 2 training in the Gottman Method; Advanced training in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, in addition to past experience with PACT & Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I only work with couples or relationship structures at this time and I offer in person; telehealth; and a hybrid option. I also offer mini intensives (4 hour sessions), which compress the therapeutic work into a shorter period, offering a powerful and potentially transformative approach for clients seeking to revitalize their relationships, providing a focused and immersive environment for rapid change and deeper understanding. Because I see relationship clients from all across PA and DE, the mini intensive option works well for clients who really want an in person therapy experience, but can't make a weekly or even biweekly commute fit into their schedule.
Because therapy is not “one-size-fits-all,” our sessions will be adapted based on your specific needs, tailoring the sessions to align with your goals. No matter the challenges you are experiencing, I am committed to collaborating with you on your journey toward your best life. With time and therapeutic support, we can all heal, achieve growth, and become the best versions of ourselves. My mission is to create a secure and empathetic space where you can openly express yourself, gain intrapersonal insight, and feel truly heard. If you are ready to embark on a path of healing, growth, and self-discovery, I am here to support you. We will utilize an eclectic approach of therapies, drawing from solution focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to name a few. Incorporating a holistic perspective, we will consider the impact that past experiences, trauma, and the body have on your life and work toward lasting change. I look forward to working with you and beginning this compassion filled and judgement free journey toward your inner peace.
I love doing therapy, because I believe it works, even when people have experienced long and difficult struggles. I love solving the new "puzzle" that each new person brings, and believe that solving that puzzle together makes us both feel hopeful and energized. People from all generations, personal situations, and walks of life are welcome in my office. I listen a lot, and I'm non-directive, but far from silent. I will provide as much structure as you need to feel comfortable, but try to stay out of your way as you develop your own insights and action plans. Building trust and rapport is important, and I will work hard to understand what you need to do that. We'll work together to stabilize distressing emotions and solve immediate real problems that are creating a crisis, then collaborate on longer-term goals to understand causes and old patterns so that new strengths and strategies can grow.
Finding the right therapist can feel daunting. It might help you make your decision to know I felt I had to earn the right to accompany my clients on their psychological journeys. I earned that right not just through formal education, but also by embarking on the same psychological journey upon which I would ultimately accompany my clients. I offer therapy in a private, tranquil, picturesque office setting. Please give me a call to discuss how I can help you navigate the challenges you're facing.
As a clinical psychologist offering evening telehealth therapy sessions, my approach to helping individuals and couples facing marital problems, sexual addiction issues, or individual mental health challenges is grounded in evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of each client’s unique experiences. I primarily utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) while integrating insights into family of origin issues to foster healing, growth, and lasting change. Core Principles of My Approach 1. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a Foundation CBT is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps clients identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. For those struggling with marital problems, I guide couples to recognize distorted thinking—such as all-or-nothing assumptions about their partner—and replace these with balanced perspectives to improve communication and emotional connection. For individuals with sexual addiction, CBT helps address triggers, restructure compulsive thought patterns, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Similarly, for those facing mental health challenges like anxiety or depression, CBT empowers clients to challenge negative self-beliefs and build resilience through practical strategies. 2. Exploring Family of Origin Issues Many struggles in relationships or personal mental health stem from patterns learned in childhood. By exploring family of origin dynamics, I help clients uncover how early experiences with caregivers or significant life events shape their current behaviors and relationships. For example, a client with marital issues may discover that unresolved attachment patterns from their family influence their interactions with their spouse. For those with sexual addiction, understanding family dynamics can reveal underlying emotional needs or traumas driving compulsive behaviors. This insight allows us to address root causes, not just symptoms, fostering deeper self-awareness and healing. 3. Tailored, Compassionate Telehealth Sessions Offering evening telehealth sessions ensures accessibility for clients with busy schedules or those who prefer the comfort of their own space. My approach is collaborative and empathetic, creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood. Whether working with couples to rebuild trust, guiding individuals through addiction recovery, or supporting mental health challenges, I tailor interventions to each client’s needs, drawing on CBT techniques and family of origin exploration to promote meaningful progress. 4. Holistic and Practical Focus My goal is to empower clients with practical tools they can apply outside of sessions. For couples, this might include communication exercises or conflict-resolution strategies. For those with sexual addiction, I provide relapse prevention plans and mindfulness techniques. For individual mental health struggles, I teach coping skills like cognitive restructuring or relaxation techniques. By addressing both present challenges and historical influences, I help clients build a stronger foundation for long-term well-being. Why This Approach Works: By combining CBT’s evidence-based structure with an exploration of family of origin issues, I address both the immediate symptoms and the deeper roots of clients’ struggles. Evening telehealth sessions make therapy accessible and convenient, ensuring clients can prioritize their mental health and relationships. My approach is not about quick fixes, but about equipping clients with the insight, skills, and resilience to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and clarity.
I believe in meeting each client where they are. There is not one way to help someone resolve a problem in their life. I believe in helping my clients find the right path that works for them and following along beside them to provide wisdom in their lives to take the next steps and make better choices. A mental health professional should go above and beyond for their clients and I believe in this whole heartedly. My motto is "get me in your life and out of your life quickly so that you can live happy!"
I work with individuals who have experienced trauma to be able to live their life to the fullest.
Are you experiencing anxiety and stress that are having a negative impact on your life? Or do you have body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), like skin picking or hair pulling, that are impacting your emotional and physical well-being? I would love to work with you, as I treat anxiety and other related conditions, as well as BFRBs in older children, adolescents, and young adult women. Together, we will work toward increasing your awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and identify and use healthier and more effective strategies. I became passionate about helping clients with BFRBs and anxiety during my 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I received my master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania, and worked at McLean Hospital for 14 years. I am trained in several treatment approaches, and will use the most effective ones to help you achieve your treatment goals. My style is collaborative, empathic, and goal-focused. Please reach out to me if you are looking to better manage your BFRBs, anxiety, and stress, and live a happier, healthier life!
I believe in the intrinsic worth of all human beings. I believe that many people do not see their value because it is overshadowed by the shame caused by their perceptions of who they should be and what they should be achieving. There are many reasons why these distortions exist; but one thing is for certain, it creates a feeling of being a fraud and deep shame. A lot of time and energy is used to counteract this secret shame. I feel that it is important to help teens and adults to become authentic and accepting of their strengths and weaknesses instead of putting our emotional and physical energy in denying and being afraid of our humanness. It is exhausting and paralyzing to be so afraid of our imperfections. I believe there is value in accepting our own humanity. We have to climb off our self imposed pedestal which is secretive and isolating and connect with other human beings without the fear of being discovered a fraud. It is so freeing and meaningful.
