I am now offering online and tele-therapy options for all new and returning clients. Please contact me for more information or if you would like to schedule an appointment or consultation. Thank you. Welcome. I know the decision to come to therapy can be a very difficult one. You need reassurance that you have made the right decision to get outside support, and that I will be the person to best help you. I want you to know that I have a passion for helping others, and I strive to make each person feel safe, comfortable, and confident in the therapeutic process so that collaboration and healing can occur. In therapy, we will work together to better understand your needs and come up with solutions that are manageable and reachable. We will work on developing greater self-knowledge and identifying emotional, behavioral, and relational patterns that have gotten in your way and kept you feeling stuck. I will teach you skills that include helping you better regulate your emotions, manage your stress, challenge unproductive ways of thinking, and become a better advocate for yourself.
People don't have to be in crisis to come to therapy; oftentimes, those who contact me are managing feelings that have been building up over time. I have niche experience working with medical professionals such as physicians, nurses and medical trainees and directed a new program at UNMC aimed at understanding burnout. I enjoy working with college and graduate students, international students, and did this at counseling centers like MIT. I especially like working with adults in general, and new parents. I completed my APA internship and postdoc in the Penn System where I saw a variety of people living with a range of feelings. I believe that addressing feelings and understanding where they stem from, and how to manage them, can help people navigate life's challenges in relationships, work, school, and beyond. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, emotionally rich and confidential environment for individuals to explore what's on their mind. Collaborating on other areas of your life that you may want to examine, such as your relationships with others (romantic, friendship, personal, professional) is something I find joy in. I look forward to meeting you and potentially working together to uncover not just what might be holding you back or keeping you up at night, but your strengths as well.
I work with individuals who have experienced trauma to be able to live their life to the fullest.
Are you seeking freedom from anxiety, closer connections, relief from depression or wanting to change old stuck patterns that keep you from living a fulfilled life? If the answer is yes to any of the above, I can help. With over 20 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist, I have witnessed my clients experience profound and lasting transformation. My approach is holistic and integrated many theoretical approaches to help you achieve change and live your best life. I am very experienced treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationships, parent-child issues, child trauma and grief. I work with adults, teens, children, couples and families.
I have a passion for guiding others through some of their toughest times and assisting in their recovery. I also have a strength-based approach, which has assisted in the success of my clients. Some of my strengths are in processing subject matter such as victims-survivors of narcissistic abuse, anxiety management, healthy relationship development, self-esteem, perfectionism, life transitions, life goal processing, adolescent matters, bereavement, families affected by addiction, and the complexity of working in the educational and medical working environments.
What brings you to therapy is pain in your life. Did you know that have strengths, already present within yourself - to cope with what life throws you? I can help you discover those strengths and learn to use them - so that you can start feeling in control of your life again.
In my practice, I work with adults, defined as approximately age 20 and older. I work with individual clients, with couples, and with groups. In group therapy, the clients are almost always in individual therapy as well, with me, with my co-therapist, or with another therapist who has referred the client to the group. I work with clients presenting a variety of issues, including: *Depression Relationship Issues *Life Transitions *Anxiety *Addictive Behaviors *GLBT Issues *Anger *Grief and Loss *Sense of Self/Self-Esteem *Men's Issues *Trauma and PTSD *Partners of Abuse Survivors *Adult Children of Alcoholic/Dysfunctional/Abuse Families *Couples Issues, including Re-Marriage, Extramarital Relationships, and Step-Families I have had experience working with diverse groups of people. I have been a consulting psychologist to an orthodox yeshiva, I have worked with Catholic seminarians, I have taught and supervised trainees in a largely Catholic Pastoral Counseling program, and I have taken numerous workshops in working with Gay, Bi, and Lesbian, and Questioning clients. In addition, I have been involved in Multicultural work since 2001, and seek to keep an open mind and continuously question my assumptions about people whose lives are different from mine. I believe that psychotherapy is an interactive process that calls for both the client and the therapist to be as fully involved as possible. Therefore, I participate actively with my patients, sharing my thoughts, impressions, and reactions to what we are talking about. I believe that people can change even long-standing patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior if THEY participate actively. My job is to create a space where clients can be curious and learn about the ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that they bring to their lives, and about how these ways work for them and against them. I create this space by bringing both my professional training and understanding and my human compassion, empathy, and respect. In my practice, I typically meet with people once a week; if there is a need for additional support, or if we decide together that more intense work is called for, meeting twice a week can be very useful. Even meeting once a week allows clients to develop enough comfort with me and with therapy for our work to be effective and helpful. Regarding my theoretical grounding, I have intensive training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, and Existential therapeutic approaches, and I draw from each of these as the client's situation, needs, and goals call for. Some therapists subscribe to and identify with one school of thought and apply that way of thinking and working to every client. I first work to understand each client's particular issues, needs, and style of thinking and feeling. THEN, I use the approach and methods that I believe would be most useful to that patient, and remain open to using whatever else might work based on what develops. Therefore, my orientation is eclectic, and my methods are determined by the client's personality and needs.
I have several years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, self-confidence, trauma and addictions in a variety of settings. I have an eclectic approach to counseling, I draw from various modalities and techniques in order to provide the best support for my client. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive and accepting environment in which we can explore challenges, gain insight and facilitate positive personal change and growth.
