I am a warm, caring clinician that sees clients with many different kinds of issues. I have a specialty in the treatment of OCD, addictions, and job stress. I treat OCD utilizing IFS, EMDR, and AEDP Therapy. I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. I also treat many other forms of addictions. I am fully certified in two evidence based therapies: 1) EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and 2) IFS or Internal Family Systems Therapy. In a very SAFE manner, these methods of therapy go deeper and are VERY effective. I emphasize the word SAFE because NOTHING is ever discussed unless YOU are comfortable discussing it. You're "the boss" as to what we cover or discuss in therapy.
Beginning therapy is a brave step. Finding a therapist who is a good match for you is an important first step in creating the life changes that you want to see. I love working with young adults and middle age adults, new parents, and college students through the life transitions of early and mid adulthood. I specialize in relational and sexual health, which means that I work with individuals, couples, and polyamorous folks to navigate a variety of relational and sexual concerns, including relational strain due to stress, challenges with major relational transitions, general sexual dissatisfaction, desire discrepancy, sexual anxiety, vulvodyniavaginismus, pregnancy lossinfertility, and other problems. Mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, and the impact of trauma, can create additional challenges for relational health, sexual functioning, and overall wellbeing. In a non-judgmental way, I will help individuals and relationships to better cope with these concerns. In therapy, we will evaluate your life values and create goals, so that you can live life well, even in the presence of challenges. I will integrate psychodynamic (insight-oriented) and behavioral (skills-based) theories to offer you a comprehensive approach to health.

While some of my other clients are about to enter, or recently entered, parenthood and are navigating all the feelings that brings up. You want to do things differently but the anxiety, overthinking, and uncertainty get in the way. Together in our sessions we'll identify patterns, better understand them, and work together to come up with a plan of how to achieve your goals. My background is in working with people experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, expectingnew moms and dads, infertility, and life transitions. It can be hard taking the first step when you're struggling, but you've already done it by being here! Beginning therapy is courageous. It can be a transformational environment, a bridge from suffering to the ultimate discovery of choices that allow people to dynamically engage with life. Anxiety, depression, fear, and troubling feelings are not indicative of sickness, but instead signals that call for empathy, curiosity, and self-care. I believe that people's strengths are essential in the therapeutic process; I endeavor to help people gain access to their honesty, humor, sensitivity, intelligence, courage, and resilience during the course of the healing process. I provide a direct, nurturing, and warm approach to therapy. I have experience working with people overcoming anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship difficulties, and life transitions such as entering into marriage and becoming a parent. I have a specific interest in the heightened opportunity for growth that derives from developmental transitions. I teach courses to clinical fellows on adolescent and child community-based therapy with urban youth. I have worked with adolescents and adults, in individual and couples therapy, and in an array of treatment environments. I treat people in open-ended and brief talk psychotherapy.

If you yearn for a more fulfilling relationship, greater self-esteem and self-compassion, healing from the past, and a more enjoyable and purposeful life, it means you’re paying attention. There’s always room for growth. Perhaps you aspire to improve one aspect of your life or several areas. Maybe you feel discouraged and lost because you’ve worked hard to make things better and haven’t seen a difference, or you’re newly aware of the need for a shift in life and this is your first try; either is okay. Successful change doesn’t have to start with self-confidence or a plan. It just requires the willingness to reach out and not take the journey alone. It can feel intimidating and scary to take that first step into therapy, and I deeply value creating a space in which you can feel as comfortable and as emotionally safe as possible to open up as you're ready. I flexibly and thoughtfully integrate evidence-based approaches tailored to each individual and couple, and my style is authentic, compassionate, collaborative, and warm. I'm attentive, actively engaged, and straightforward in sessions, and I firmly believe in the beauty of playfulness and humor. I stay up-to-date with the latest research, and my work is grounded in science. In addition to my work as a therapist, I teach a university course on close relationships. I've also written books on emotional unavailability in romantic relationships and the ways in which denial can create difficulties in some situations while being useful in others. I've been able to help couples transform painful communication patterns, manage conflict more effectively, build greater security and trust, increase intimacy, heal relationship wounds, and resolve uncertainty about their relationship. I've supported individual clients in their journey to treat themselves with more kindness, understand themselves and their relationships more deeply, advance healing from painful losses and other highly stressful experiences (including trauma), cope in healthier ways, and make changes in multiple areas of life. I welcome individuals and couples of diverse races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, beliefs, gender identities, and ages. It's possible to feel less alone, build better relationships, feel more comfortable in your own skin, and create a more satisfying life. Therapy can help you get there, and I'd love to take that journey with you. Please feel free to visit my website and call or email me so we can explore whether I'd be a good fit. You deserve to work with a therapist who is the right match for you, and I offer a free 30-minute consultation phone call so you can see what it's like to talk with me and get a sense of whether I can help. Thank you for stopping by to read this, and I hope to hear from you!
I believe that therapy should be a supportive, collaborative process where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Whether you’re navigating a major life transition, feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, or struggling with anxiety, relationships, or identity-related concerns, I’ll work with you to better understand your experiences, clarify your values, and build the skills needed to move forward. I tailor therapy to your unique needs and background, and I welcome clients from all walks of life. In our work, I value openness, curiosity, and compassion, and humor. My aim is to help you connect more deeply with yourself and others, so you can live the kind of life that feels best for you.
Hi, and welcome. For many people, the decision to get help can be a difficult one. I see your visit to my profile as a sign of strength and a refusal to give up. Loneliness, the inability to enjoy life, excessive worry or fear, anxiety in social situations, unhappiness or problems in personal, professional or marital relationships, not knowing what to do personally or professionally, even substance "abuse" and PTSD are issues that are interpersonal, not biological. They can be overcome within a genuinely understanding, compassionate, active, and patient therapeutic relationship. Our work is a "facilitating partnership." I specialize in helping you overcome both your painful symptoms and your life blocks. I help you answer questions you have about yourself, so that you understand yourself and can have fulfilling relationships. I'm a psychodynamic-cognitive-relational practitioner. I am sincere, transparent (yes, I give straightforward answers to your questions), accepting, and simultaneously engaged and patient. People grow by overcoming life's challenges. Good therapy happens when the person in it feels the right mix of challenge and support. I specialize in helping you find this balance.

In the twenty years I've been doing this, I've found that the most successful outcomes include a healthy mixture of confronting difficult experiences, celebrating wins, and occasionally laughing at our predicaments. Life can be quite serious and heartbreaking at times, and I'll never lose sight of that. In response to this, though, I've adopted a style where I invite people to play with some of the pieces that make up their lives. We can't change the facts, but we can sometimes think and feel differently about them. Starting therapy can be intimidating; many of the people I have worked with expressed relief to discover that they would not be expected to talk at someone who doesn't say anything. I think most people find me to be engaging and approachable. Sometimes we talk about the past, sometimes we talk about the challenges of the week, sometimes we talk about concerns for the future, and sometimes we talk about what's good on Netflix. In general, my goal is to be as open and as transparent as possible, and to take feedback. My hope is that this allows us to find the right pace and tone that makes the work feel rich and productive.
