The way you think, feel, and act creates your reality. But it can be hard to quiet your mind as it is currently. Maybe you're caught in cycles of overthinking or people-pleasing, prioritizing others’ needs and leaving little space for your own. You long to feel connected and grounded, but the buzzing energy never fully fades. Even when things look fine on the outside, you might feel emotionally overwhelmed or like you're not doing enough — no matter how much you achieve. You may wonder, “Why do I feel this way? Am I broken?” You’re not. These thoughts and feelings are trying to point you somewhere. I can help you make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface to live with ease, authenticity, and pleasure. Let's explore your potential reality together.

Having the courage to reach out and ask for help is a major achievement. As your therapist, I am here to provide warmth, humor, compassion, and a non-judgmental space that can help you feel valued and accepted. My focus is to help you find your unique strengths and skills to make positive changes. Together we can work through the obstacles that are impeding you from having a more fulfilling life. Are you experiencing anxiety and stress that are having a negative impact on your life? Or do you have body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), like skin picking or hair pulling, that are impacting your emotional and physical well-being? I would love to work with you, as I treat anxiety and other related conditions, as well as BFRBs in older children, adolescents, and young adult women. Together, we will work toward increasing your awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and identify and use healthier and more effective strategies. I became passionate about helping clients with BFRBs and anxiety during my 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I received my master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania, and worked at McLean Hospital for 14 years. I am trained in several treatment approaches, and will use the most effective ones to help you achieve your treatment goals. My style is collaborative, empathic, and goal-focused. Please reach out to me if you are looking to better manage your BFRBs, anxiety, and stress, and live a happier, healthier life!
I have been working in the helping field related to counseling for almost 20 years. In that time I have learned that the best way to help others is to be an excellent listener, to be compassionate, empathetic, and to collaborate with individuals to assist them in gaining the tools that they need to make positive change in their lives. I work hard to encourage clients that the strength for change lies within them and my job is to help them find it. I utilize a great deal of mindfulness based techniques and believe that learning the process of becoming more mindful in life can be extremely beneficial to problem solving and learning to sit with discomfort. As a counselor I do not believe that I have all of the answers or can fix anyone, however, I do believe that if the client is willing to do the work to create change in their life that I can assist them in doing so successfully. Ultimately, my goal for the counseling relationship is to assist clients in managing stress more effectively and learning skills that can be used well after the counseling relationship has terminated, in a straightforward and honest approach.
I welcome your courage in sharing your challenges with me and believe that we can work together using evidence-based therapy to create change. Our relationship matters to me and I will check in with you frequently about our work. I bring respect, empathy, humor, and authenticity (I'm a real person!) to the therapy room. I often work with body image and eating issues (e.g., food restrictionother), addiction, anxiety & OCD, insomnia, depression, trauma & PTSD, shame, perfectionism, relationship issues and parenting. I am a certified couples' and Level 2 AEDP and IFS therapist. I also use mindfulness, CBT and DBT heavily in my practice. I draw on evolutionary psychology to understand how our feelings (e.g., anxiety, fear, anger, joy) evolved to protect us and push us to take survival-oriented actions that we may or may not want to take. I use mindfulness to help us gain awareness of feelings and make new choices when needed. I am part-time faculty at Harvard Medical School, where I trained. I often work with adult professionals as well as adolescents and young adults. I enjoy meditating and spending time in nature — rock-climbing, hiking and cycling. I grew up in Europe in a diverse family and bring a multicultural sensitivity to therapy. I conduct therapy in French and Spanish as well, languages I am fluent in. https:www.dremilymanove.com
