A non-profit organization that offers support to adult survivors of child abuse, isurvive.org is an organization composed of volunteers through the United States, Europe, the UK, and Australia. Membership with isurvive is worldwide and growing on a daily basis. Their mission is to offer resources to adult survivors of child abuse and instill hope that healing can happen, in a safe and secure environment that restricts public access and offers forums for survivors to discuss experiences.  The site also offers extensive resources such as crisis information and information on counseling services for individuals who are in need of them, and it is moderated every day to ensure a sense of presence and safety. The online community of people provides information, support, and the opportunity to share experiences which may be helpful to others. Organizers and participants with isurvive have been speaking from experience and from their hearts since 2001.

In the United States, over 3 million reports of child abuse, involving over 6 million children, are made each year. Approximately five children are reported to die each day as a result of abuse or neglect, but due to significant undercounting, the actual number of fatalities may be almost twice that. Children who are abused have a higher risk of mental health conditions, addiction, and related issues, such as depression, intimate partner violence, or drug abuse later in life. They are also more likely to experience sexual and reproductive health issues such as early sexual activity, sexually transmitted infections, unintended pregnancies, and adolescent pregnancies. One study surveyed 21-year-olds and found that 80% of those who reported abuse in childhood met the diagnostic criteria of at least one psychiatric illness. Treatment and support following abuse can help reduce the risk of these issues developing and may prevent the likelihood of children who have been abused becoming abusive later in life. Even if treatment is not sought until adulthood, many individuals will still obtain benefit, and the peer-based support that can be found on isurvive can be a supplement to clinical services.

With resources, an online chat room, and forums, isurvive offers a place where either survivors or their loved ones can seek support from peers in an anonymous environment. There are also several private forums which offer additional security in the knowledge that public access is restricted. Therapy and advice are not a part of isurvive.org; the site is simply a quiet landing platform for those who find it. You need never be alone again.
