GoodTherapy.org is proud to have the approval of The Association for Addiction Professionals, known as NAADAC (naadac.org), as a continuing education (CE) provider for counselors who specialize in addictions.
NAADAC aims to unite professionals in the field of addiction and addiction recovery, as well as promote education, ethical practices, and research. NAADAC has 8,000 national members who specialize in counseling, intervention, treatment, and more. Certified members must have 40 hours of continuing education, including 20 specifically related to alcoholism & drug counseling, to renew their NAADAC certificate.
Each year, NAADAC puts on an annual conference, which will be held this year in Seattle from September 26 – October 1. In addition, the NAADAC’s Advocacy in Action conference happens each spring. Advocacy in Action raises awareness among addiction professionals about addiction-focused issues and legislation and encourages individuals to become policy advocates.
NAADAC also offers credentialing, testing, and certification for professionals in the field of addiction and aims to standardize the quality of education and resources related to addiction and recovery. These standards are designed to improve the quality of care and treatment available to those with substance abuse problems and ensure clinicians are mindful of the individual seeking therapy.
GoodTherapy.org maintains these standards and expectations through our CE program and our mission to reduce diagnostic-based therapy and stigma surrounding addiction problems and all mental health issues. Continuing education events and CEUs are offered to GoodTherapy.org members at no additional cost to membership. Members can access our growing archive of CE events and earn CEUs at any time, as well as register for any upcoming events.Upcoming CE events related to addiction and/or recovery include:
- Applying DBT for Client Wellness and Recovery, by Andrew Bein, PhD, LCSW on July 18, 2014 at 9 a.m. Pacific
- The Addictive Family: The Legacy of Trauma, by Claudia Black, PhD on September 5, 2014 at 9 a.m. Pacific
GoodTherapy.org is also approved as a provider of continuing education by the American Psychological Association, the National Board for Certified Counselors and Affiliates (NBCC), and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). Offering dozens of continuing education events every year and a wide variety of subjects for therapists, GoodTherapy.org currently has 258 CE credits available in our archive—and counting!
