GoodTherapy.org Highlights Local Organization in Donation Drive

Partners in Prevention Education logoAnother Mental Health Awareness Month has come to a close. Although GoodTherapy.org seeks to raise awareness throughout the year, the month of May allows us to share our message with more people. This year, our team ran a donation drive for a local organization. PiPE, or Partners in Prevention Education, supports people in Olympia, WA. They work with LGBTQIA folk and youth experiencing houselessness. The mental health challenges faced by these groups are often overlooked and stigmatized.

The mind-body connection was at the forefront of the mental health discussion in May. PiPE supports healthy minds and bodies by providing resources for high-risk youths in the community. These resources include physical necessities for basic self-care, like personal hygiene products. They also include emotional support through groups and therapy. Helping people meet basic needs and stay safe is integral to ensuring their well-being. PiPE helps make sure this happens in our community. They provide drop-in hours where people can get together, do laundry, shower, cook, make art, and more.

GoodTherapy.org is committed to educating the public about the reality of mental health issues. PiPE also works hard to support vulnerable members of our community. They make sure these community members feel safe to seek help. When asked why PiPE was our organization of choice, Eli Levich, continuing education coordinator, said, “We wanted to get together to contribute to a local organization that has a positive impact on our community, particularly concerning mental health. PiPE promotes better mental health and less violence in our community.”

PiPE provides one-on-one, couples, and family therapy. It is available for those who have difficulty accessing counseling. The therapy PiPE provides is free to at-risk youth ages 13-30. PiPE also has support groups for young people, women, and transgender folk. These create an environment for people to open up in safety.

You can also contribute to PiPE or another organization, and there are plenty of ways to do so! PiPE’s donation page is here. You can also search for similar organizations in your community. Find one and start a donation drive of your own.

Mental Health Awareness Month may be over for the year. But there is never a wrong time to raise awareness of mental health issues. There are many ways to contribute to causes that do this on a grand scale. PiPE’s mission has motivated us this past month. We hope you are also inspired to help reduce stigma and spread mental health awareness in your community!
