In some way or another, we are all trying to find our way home again. To that place of being where we feel deeply peaceful, vibrantly alive, and connected in kinship and love. We feel a deep longing for this place yet struggle to make sense of how to close the gap between here and there. Unresolved trauma, troublesome childhood environments, and a host of other factors may be causing us never-ending stress and hardship. We have tried to fix things yet we have failed and bit by bit, we lose faith that we can realize our heart’s calling. The chaos and unrest in our lives take their toll day by day and we feel stuck and hopeless. We each have a vast set of inner resources and a natural capacity for healing, if only we are able to tap into them and foster their growth. Together we’ll work together to identify and practice activities that help you feel calm, confident and in control. We'll use somatic-based, mindfulness practices to become aware of the signs of unresolved trauma and guide the body, heart and mind to resolution. I'll support and coach you as you move beyond self-limiting patterns and embody the self you’re yearning to become. I bring playfulness, curiosity, acceptance, and empathy to my work and value the wisdom within each of my clients. I tailor my services using an evidence-based client feedback tool to help us find what works best while also being efficient with time and resources. I believe we are all deserving of love - especially in the places where society has told us we should be ashamed. If you want to get to a better place yet are struggling to find a way there, please reach out.
I bring all of my skills, experience & self to whatever issue you are dealing with. It really is the confluence of the mind and the heart (intelligence and empathy) that I think helps us identify what needs to be healed or heard, and then to actually hear it & heal it.
Challenged by transition? Experiencing anxiety, stress, or frustration? I offer a supportive, encouraging, goal-oriented approach with consideration given to the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your situation. Patterns and symptoms on the physical level might also be explored as possible clues to imbalance or unmet needs. The story of your life and the distinguishing characteristics of your relationships are created by the experiences life brings you. This is influenced by the multiple ways we all see, hear, and experience each other. A key element of our work together will be exploring various translations of this rich and complex mix of information. The process of change can be multi-layered and challenging, requiring time for both reflection and action, appreciation and questioning, celebration and grieving. Our work will be a compassionate and purposeful undertaking, directed at reaping the full benefit of transitions or challenges in your life.
My work is influenced by the thought of existentialist philosophers and psychologists who speak with compassion to a profound and uniquely human dilemma: we are both burdened with and ennobled by a quest for meaning in the face of suffering. Psychotherapy provides a safe and intimate space in which we might expand our capacity to bear suffering and to find meaning within and through it. Depth psychology proposes that the psyche consists of both conscious and unconscious thoughts, impulses, fantasies, and ideas. Symptoms (depression, anxiety, addictions, etc.) are more than painful indicators of psychopathology; they are messages, metaphors, elements of a narrative moving us toward growth, insight, and individuation. Depth psychology embraces paradox. Caught in "complexes," we are simultaneously aware and unaware of how we are behaving in relation to self and others. We struggle to make sense of how our cherished relationships are falling apart and unable to articulate the source of our discontent. Depth psychology offers no "cure". Instead, it is a healing journey into the mystery of the psyche, a process of refinement and increased awareness, bringing us freedom to choose differently and creatively.
I am currently accepting new clients. Please contact me for a free 20 minute consultation. I work together with you to help you feel happier, healthier, and more balanced in your life, work and relationships. Every one of us brings a unique set of concerns and strengths to life; a counseling approach that works for one person may not work for the next person. That's why my approach is eclectic; so we can find the best therapy for you. Some guiding ideas in my work are to facilitate change by focusing on the here and now, using awareness and acceptance and building on the strengths that you already have. If you're in therapy you most likely want to change something about your life. Change comes naturally when there's space in your life. And that's what we do in therapy - we learn how to create spaciousness so that there's room to maneuver and skillfully address the issues in our life.
Hi! I'm Dr. Dave McNew. I am a licensed clinical psychologist helping those with marginalized identities to heal chronic struggles with complex trauma, anxiety, and depression. I use my passion for depth work, mindfulness, and self-compassion to build space in which you can know yourself more fully and live more authentically. I help to cultivate more safety and joy in your relationships with others, and with yourself. I make space for you to face the parts of yourself that are hardest to feel. Where there was pain and confusion, I help you find greater calm, peace, and connection. I offer depth-oriented, compassionate, and mindful therapy to transform your relationship with the world within and around you.
I am honored to provide psychotherapy for individuals and groups regarding life issues: work, aging, health, finances, and relationships. I work with people living with ongoing loss, such as medical diagnosis, micro and macro aggressions, forced estrangement, or caregiving for a family member. Coping skills are formed early to survive the family-of-origin, which is a microcosm of the culture. As we age, these skills may become less adaptive, causing pain. Living authentically involves changing ways of coping with life-enhancing skills and building resilience through healing attachment issues and trauma. This is especially important for those in recovery from narcissistic trauma, which is one of my specialties.
I am licensed in Washington (and Arizona) as a mental health counselor practicing in the tradition of relational psychotherapy. My hope is to further the growth of a client by exploring their problem(s) through the relational dynamic we create in therapy. I strive to address the whole person over any presenting problem and it is my belief that counseling should support and challenge clients in a safe and empathetic environment. I am eligible for most forms of insurance reimbursement and can assist you in verifying your coverage. When contacting me to start therapy, please include your full name, date of birth and current insurance. Thanks

Therapy with me provides a space to explore and challenge these patterns, reconnect with your emotions in a way that feels authentic, and develop tools to navigate life with greater clarity and fulfillment. If you’re ready to do this work, I’m here to help. In therapy, you can expect me to: Be honest but never judgmental; Keep you focused on your goals; Provide new ways of looking at things; Be curious about you, your life, motivations, and desires; and offer practical and realistic suggestions.
My clients describe me as warm, easy to talk to, attentive and insightful. They appreciate my consistency, My approach is holistic in nature, looking at how your mind, body and emotional self are reacting to what has happened to you. Most people say they have a reduction in symptoms and feel more hope after just a few sessions. I will provide you with effective, evidence-based, fully licensed psychotherapy, individualized just for you. I offer tools for stress reduction, depression management, anxiety relief, relationships and trauma. I also provide therapy for highly sensitive and neurodivergent individuals who may need extra support and understanding about the ways their body reacts to our busy world. Internalized trauma shows up in many ways. Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, shut down or even paralyzed from challenging experiences or situations is difficult. Ignoring trauma and abuse, past or present, does not make it go away. Compartmentalizing it does not leave it in the past. Talking about it means you are willing to start taking control and find your path towards healing. Together we can begin to sort out what has happened and find ways to help you feel better.
