I work with gay, lesbian, queer and straight couples of all ages to help them get back on track. Sometimes the problem is infidelity, other times it's poor communication, and other times it's old resentments that present as angry dialogue. I'm trained in the Gottman Method of couples counseling. The Gottman Method is a highly effective evidence-based approach developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. Part of the Gottman Method’s popularity comes from its short-term and structured approach, and its focus on using specific strategies and interventions. I also work with trauma clients. With those clients, I incorporate EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), as well as elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), mindfulness and somatic experiencing. EMDR is a specialized form of psychotherapy that’s been scientifically proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. This includes PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), anxiety, depression and panic disorders. I'm accepting new couples and individual clients. I offer in-person therapy as well as teletherapy. New clients can often be seen within 2-3 days. At DC Talk Therapy, all 11 of our therapists specialize in working with young adults (20s and 30s) with anxiety, depression and relationship problems. We offer individual counseling, couples therapy and group therapy. (We're currently running an ongoing Young Adult Anxiety Group for those age 27-38, and we may open up a second anxiety group.) In our practice, we have two therapists who specialize in trauma, a substance abuse specialist, an OCD specialist and a therapist who almost exclusively works with the LGBTQ community. Since we opened our practice in Washington, D.C., in 2012, we've helped nearly 2,000 people live happier and more fulfilling lives. Our therapists use a variety of therapeutic approaches but primarily use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on modifying maladaptive or distorted thoughts about ourselves or the rest of the world as a way to change resulting feelings and behavior. Our therapists believe that psychotherapy can be tremendously rewarding, even life-changing. We see therapy as very much a collaborative process, so we ask clients for feedback throughout the process. We want the client's experience to be as valuable as possible. Our office staff answers the phone live Monday through Friday 9 am-5 pm and they can often schedule you an appointment within 2-3 business days. Also, they can call your insurance company on your behalf to determine your benefits.
Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist
Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) offers specialized adoption-competent in-person and teletherapy. Whether receiving individual andor family therapy, our therapists will include the family dynamic as a whole during the treatment plan. C.A.S.E. therapists are trained under the nationally accredited Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) program and have the specialized skills, insight, and experience needed to address issues and use various treatment types depending on the needs of the child, teen or family receiving care.
People enter therapy for many different reasons, but often underneath those reasons is a sense of being stuck in a physical, mental, or emotional place they don't want to be in. For relationships, people often feel stuck in negative patterns of interacting with each other or stuck in a place of pain which they blame on the other. I see myself as partnering with my clients to help them get unstuck and reach their goals for themselves or their relationships. I am active in the therapy session by helping people process more deeply what they are going through, offering new perspectives on the situation, and challenging patterns of thought or behavior that may be contributing to what's happening. I do not see people who come into therapy as sick or weak. I think it takes a lot of strength to reach out for help when times are tough. Therefore, I have respect for those who walk into my office, and I try to do everything I can to get them to where they want to be in life.
Accepting new clients for in-person and virtual sessions. Are you stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns with yourself, your family, and maybe even your friends? Do you have difficulty saying “no?” Are you having difficulty with setting and maintaining boundaries that keep you emotionally safe? Unhealthy relationships can leave us heartbroken, unfulfilled, and feeling invisible. We begin to question our own enoughness! We become numb, sad, and disconnected. Sometimes we give up on relationships altogether while longing to be loved and validated. We get stuck between hurting and healing. If you are stuck, we can help. Unstuck Counseling is a therapy practice located in Laurel, MD. Our mission is to heal and eradicate the reverberating effects of trauma in the African American community. We partner with our clients to help them get unstuck! We do this by using culturally sensitive and evidence-based practices to help our clients overcome hurts and create new experiences in the context of a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship. Email us today to schedule an appointment. We are waiting to hear from you.
If you’re looking for therapy, you may be feeling discouraged, misunderstood, or unsure how to repair the emotional distance that’s developed between you and your partner. Maybe you love each other deeply, but can’t seem to stop the cycle of miscommunication or conflict. I understand how painful that can feel—and I want you to know that healing and connection are possible. My work focuses on helping couples rediscover their friendship, deepen their emotional intimacy, and learn skills that allow them to navigate differences with compassion and respect. Drawing from the Gottman Method and Prepare-Enrich, I use evidence-based approaches to help you understand what’s really happening beneath your interactions and to practice new ways of communicating that bring safety, empathy, and hope back into the relationship. You’ll find my style to be warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep you stuck, while also identifying the strengths that can move you forward. I believe therapy should be both a space for insight and for action—a place where couples can learn to listen, forgive, and rebuild a bond that reflects the best version of who they are together. All sessions are virtual telehealth, allowing for greater accessibility to therapy services, and are convenient for most people. My practice provides a confidential, compassionate space for couples and individuals seeking to strengthen their relationships and emotional well-being. Call or email to book your appointment today.
My approach to therapy is largely cognitive/behavioral, with a strong emphasis on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) techniques, specifically learning to be mindful- noticing and accept your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations- while committing to behavior that is consistent with your own values. My experiences both in and out of the work setting are fairly broad so I feel I can address most issues clients present with. My style is engaging and supportive. I view our relationship as a partnership. I will spend the majority of our first sessions together listening to get to know you better. I believe that everything in our lives is interrelated, so at times I may let our focus move to whatever is particularly troubling to you that day. At other times, I may focus you back on the current problem we are trying to solve. I am married with two children and have had two career changes. I have experienced a wide variety of life stressors and have sought help when needed. I believe that these experiences have provided me with empathy, perspective and coping skills that I can use to help you.
I have a broad range of experiences in working with the problems of career-oriented individuals and parents that result from relationship issues, too much responsibility, stress at home and work, personal and social isolation, loss of motivation or debilitating fears. I have worked with many people and families who are affected by anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavior challenges at school, defiance and anger, divorce or trauma. I've worked with children, teens and young adults with emotional disturbances, behavior problems, self-harm, or personality development issues, and helped couples and parents sort through relationship challenges. I also have experience in the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse and addiction in both outpatient and inpatient settings. There are no rules as to how you must or should respond to stressors: we will find positive and non-stressful alternatives. I use a non-judgmental approach to both listen, accept and validate your experiences in order to urgency address and resolve your issues. We will enhance your autonomy so you feel relief, quickly. I use a broad spectrum evidence-based therapies, particularly mindfulness-based approaches that relieve stress and augment therapy. I will help accomplish the peaceful and fulfilling life that you envision.
Searching for a therapist to guide you on your journey towards healing, change, and empowerment can be time-consuming and daunting. Everyone has the right to quality and affirming care, and that starts from the first moment you reach out to me. I will strive to always provide a safe, open, and non-judgmental atmosphere that will foster the positive therapeutic alliance needed to help you achieve your goals. My approach is not one-size-fits-all, and I only see a limited number of clients, which allows us the opportunity to set a focus and the pace you require along your path.
What brings you to therapy is pain in your life. Did you know that have strengths, already present within yourself - to cope with what life throws you? I can help you discover those strengths and learn to use them - so that you can start feeling in control of your life again.
You are worthy of healing, even when your inner-critic says otherwise. If you are experiencing anxiety, you know that it is much more complex than excessive worrying. Often negative self-talk, guilt, self-doubt, and fear also run rampant, making it difficult to get through your day. On the outside, your loved ones or colleagues may think you have it together, but internally you are struggling. Trying to control everything around you - while at the same time feeling out of control leaves you exhausted and on edge. I help clients heal by reducing anxiety and restoring self-worth. When you work with me, we will uncover your strengths, process past wounds, and enhance your coping skills. I empower all clients’ growth by using a culturally-affirming, strengths-based approach. Modalities include CBT, DBT, and Psychodynamic Therapy. With me, you will get an inclusive space to grow, heal, and practice self-compassion. You don’t have to deal with anxiety on your own. I’m here to help.
As a clinical psychologist offering evening telehealth therapy sessions, my approach to helping individuals and couples facing marital problems, sexual addiction issues, or individual mental health challenges is grounded in evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of each client’s unique experiences. I primarily utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) while integrating insights into family of origin issues to foster healing, growth, and lasting change. Core Principles of My Approach 1. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a Foundation CBT is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps clients identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. For those struggling with marital problems, I guide couples to recognize distorted thinking—such as all-or-nothing assumptions about their partner—and replace these with balanced perspectives to improve communication and emotional connection. For individuals with sexual addiction, CBT helps address triggers, restructure compulsive thought patterns, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Similarly, for those facing mental health challenges like anxiety or depression, CBT empowers clients to challenge negative self-beliefs and build resilience through practical strategies. 2. Exploring Family of Origin Issues Many struggles in relationships or personal mental health stem from patterns learned in childhood. By exploring family of origin dynamics, I help clients uncover how early experiences with caregivers or significant life events shape their current behaviors and relationships. For example, a client with marital issues may discover that unresolved attachment patterns from their family influence their interactions with their spouse. For those with sexual addiction, understanding family dynamics can reveal underlying emotional needs or traumas driving compulsive behaviors. This insight allows us to address root causes, not just symptoms, fostering deeper self-awareness and healing. 3. Tailored, Compassionate Telehealth Sessions Offering evening telehealth sessions ensures accessibility for clients with busy schedules or those who prefer the comfort of their own space. My approach is collaborative and empathetic, creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood. Whether working with couples to rebuild trust, guiding individuals through addiction recovery, or supporting mental health challenges, I tailor interventions to each client’s needs, drawing on CBT techniques and family of origin exploration to promote meaningful progress. 4. Holistic and Practical Focus My goal is to empower clients with practical tools they can apply outside of sessions. For couples, this might include communication exercises or conflict-resolution strategies. For those with sexual addiction, I provide relapse prevention plans and mindfulness techniques. For individual mental health struggles, I teach coping skills like cognitive restructuring or relaxation techniques. By addressing both present challenges and historical influences, I help clients build a stronger foundation for long-term well-being. Why This Approach Works: By combining CBT’s evidence-based structure with an exploration of family of origin issues, I address both the immediate symptoms and the deeper roots of clients’ struggles. Evening telehealth sessions make therapy accessible and convenient, ensuring clients can prioritize their mental health and relationships. My approach is not about quick fixes, but about equipping clients with the insight, skills, and resilience to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and clarity.
