It is my nature to be pretty straightforward and I really value openness, compassion, and genuineness both professionally and personally. As a therapist, I am more goal directed and want you to feel growth and movement on the issues that bring you to therapy.
I believe in the intrinsic worth of all human beings. I believe that many people do not see their value because it is overshadowed by the shame caused by their perceptions of who they should be and what they should be achieving. There are many reasons why these distortions exist; but one thing is for certain, it creates a feeling of being a fraud and deep shame. A lot of time and energy is used to counteract this secret shame. I feel that it is important to help teens and adults to become authentic and accepting of their strengths and weaknesses instead of putting our emotional and physical energy in denying and being afraid of our humanness. It is exhausting and paralyzing to be so afraid of our imperfections. I believe there is value in accepting our own humanity. We have to climb off our self imposed pedestal which is secretive and isolating and connect with other human beings without the fear of being discovered a fraud. It is so freeing and meaningful.
My communication style is warm, open, and empathetic. I strive to create a safe space where you feel comfortable expressing yourself without fear of judgment. I believe in the power of active listening and am committed to understanding your unique experiences and perspectives.
My communication style is culturally sensitive, attachment-based, and feminist-informed. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and understood. Through empathy, active listening, and collaborative dialogue, we will explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at a pace that feels right for you.
I am a doctoral level, licensed clinical psychologist. My clinical practice, located in Norfolk, Virginia. My expertise is in the areas of psychological evaluations and therapeutic techniques. For psychological evaluations, I utilize various testing measures to assess the specific mental health area(s) required for individual clients. This can include assessment for IQ, psychoticism, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, personality, memory, achievement, adaptive functioning, etc. All testing is followed by a professional, diagnostic report. For therapy, I conduct individual therapy only. I see adults of any age and children over the age of ten. However, when a child is the client, parents will be included in occasional sessions to ensure that the therapeutic practices are generalized to the home environment. My therapeutic specialties include all mood disorders, at-risk youth and psychoticism. I am a Christian and welcome the opportunity to discuss spiritual matters with my clients. However, this is based only on the comfort level of the client.
I strive to provide a safe and calm environment where my clients feel heard and supported as we navigate the complexities of life and work together to achieve their goals.
In my practice I use a variety of cognitive-behavioral techniques; visual guided imagery, Imago intentional dialogue and exercises, Voice Dialogue, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), EMDR, and stress reduction techniques. I provide a safe, comfortable, compassionate, and fun environment.
