I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist whose foremost goal is to equip each client with practical strategies that effectively facilitate a journey toward wholeness. I possess a bachelor's degree in sociology, a master's degree in administration, and a master's degree in social work. My fifteen years in clinical social work have included evidence-based treatment of clients from all walks of life--from the severely mentally ill to the mildly impaired to Veterans, to those in the general population. Every individual is unique and presents with distinct needs, I approach each case from a person-centered approach. My top modalities include Christian Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, Compassion Focused, Narrative, Strength-Based and Psychodynamic Therapies. My top specialties include Anxiety, Depression, Anger Issues, Codependency, Coping Skills, Life Transitions, Self-Esteem, Stress, and Thought Disorders. My "ideal client" is the individual who comes to me with the realization of the needdesire for optimal mental health and one who is genuinely motivated to seek change. And, because each individual is unique and presents with distinct, individualized needs, I approach each case from a person-centered approach and implement unique treatment modalities specific to that individual. I approach each client as an empathic listener, with a desire to intently hear the needs, perspectives, and goals of each client. Throughout the session, my tone remained calm, my demeanor poised, and my listening style reflective and non-judgmental. Unlike a physical wound, mental illness is often the invisible wound that many in society silently carry. I was drawn to therapy by my need to help others overcome the stigma that those with mental challenges often experience and to help individuals grappling with mental challenges achieve optimal mental wholeness. My training includes over eight years of intense, hands-on work experience in a mental hospital treating those with schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, etc., as well as five years of work experience with military Veterans in an outpatient clinic. I also work in private practice as a psychotherapist. Successful care and progress for each client look different and are based on the identified needs and goals that each client personally sets for himself. Progress occurs per the client's own pre-established benchmarks and goals, identified and discussed during the initial therapy sessions. My first session with each client is designed to establish rapport and to learn about the client and what brought the client to therapy. During this initial first session, I invite the client to share their needs, concerns, problems, background, etc., and what their goal is for therapy. I also share about myself, my educational background, my work experience, and, based on the client's need, how I can most effectively assist the client in achieving his goals.

Sick and tired of feeling stuck, anxious, and unhappy? You're not alone. My name is Atim and I specialize in helping couples and families who are struggling with these same issues. My clients typically feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to move forward when they first come to me. I work with LGBTQIA+ couples, blended families, parents of children with ADHD, individuals recovering from trauma, and more. Through my unique approach, I help clients get to their unique goals, which often include things like less fighting, improved self-esteem, better relationships, more peaceful family dynamics and a more fulfilling life. My approach is rooted in compassion, empathy, and a deep understanding of the relationships between people. Let's get started with making reach changes today.
I provide individual therapy (in person andor virtually) for late adolescents and adults in the greater Washington, DC area and I am PsyPact licensed so can see people in participating PsyPact states. I also provide comprehensive ADHD assessments. I have a particular passion for working with young adults who are figuring out and navigating their next "chapter" of life. I aim to help individuals capitalize on their strengths and work with their limitations, change their responses to interpersonal problems, and help them form new and improved healthy relationships and ways of relating to their world that does not repeat previously unhealthy patterns. By bringing support, encouragement, humor, and a nonjudgmental perspective to our work together, I meet clients where they are, whether they have been to therapy before or are exploring therapy for the first time. Knowing how important the therapy relationship is, my primary goal is to make my clients feel heard, understood, and hopeful. I adapt my approach and style, as needed, to work with my clients' unique needs. I am always happy to jump on the phone for a brief consultation to determine if we may be a good fit to work together.
"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." -Dr. Seuss My ability to easily relate to and connect with children and teens provides them with a comfortable space in which they can express themselves. Working with individuals and families is my passion. I believe that each child is an individual with individual needs; therefore, each treatment plan is customized to meet the unique needs of your child and family. My goal is to help children and families learn the skills necessary to have healthy, happy lives. When needed, I also work with parents and other individuals involved in the child's life by providing support, coping skills, and new ideas to help manage the difficulties the child is experiencing. I am also available for speaking engagements and can be contacted through my website.

At Starobin Counseling we focus on helping people repair and strengthen their relationships with themselves and their relationships with others. We regard relationships as central to the therapeutic process. Some challenges in life are purely personal, but most problems express themselves in the intersections people have with other people. Therapy helps people repair their inner selves, often injured by relational ruptures, and learn and practice being in relational health with one another. Therapy helps people hear themselves think, experience feelings, gain new perspectives. We help people recognize and strengthen their own vitality and resiliency so they can unlock their capacity for compassionate and meaningful connections. We are a neurodiversity-minded, neurodiversity-affirming, gender-affirming, and culturally aware and sensitive practice.
As a clinical psychologist offering evening telehealth therapy sessions, my approach to helping individuals and couples facing marital problems, sexual addiction issues, or individual mental health challenges is grounded in evidence-based practices and a deep understanding of each client’s unique experiences. I primarily utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) while integrating insights into family of origin issues to foster healing, growth, and lasting change. Core Principles of My Approach 1. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a Foundation CBT is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps clients identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. For those struggling with marital problems, I guide couples to recognize distorted thinking—such as all-or-nothing assumptions about their partner—and replace these with balanced perspectives to improve communication and emotional connection. For individuals with sexual addiction, CBT helps address triggers, restructure compulsive thought patterns, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Similarly, for those facing mental health challenges like anxiety or depression, CBT empowers clients to challenge negative self-beliefs and build resilience through practical strategies. 2. Exploring Family of Origin Issues Many struggles in relationships or personal mental health stem from patterns learned in childhood. By exploring family of origin dynamics, I help clients uncover how early experiences with caregivers or significant life events shape their current behaviors and relationships. For example, a client with marital issues may discover that unresolved attachment patterns from their family influence their interactions with their spouse. For those with sexual addiction, understanding family dynamics can reveal underlying emotional needs or traumas driving compulsive behaviors. This insight allows us to address root causes, not just symptoms, fostering deeper self-awareness and healing. 3. Tailored, Compassionate Telehealth Sessions Offering evening telehealth sessions ensures accessibility for clients with busy schedules or those who prefer the comfort of their own space. My approach is collaborative and empathetic, creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and understood. Whether working with couples to rebuild trust, guiding individuals through addiction recovery, or supporting mental health challenges, I tailor interventions to each client’s needs, drawing on CBT techniques and family of origin exploration to promote meaningful progress. 4. Holistic and Practical Focus My goal is to empower clients with practical tools they can apply outside of sessions. For couples, this might include communication exercises or conflict-resolution strategies. For those with sexual addiction, I provide relapse prevention plans and mindfulness techniques. For individual mental health struggles, I teach coping skills like cognitive restructuring or relaxation techniques. By addressing both present challenges and historical influences, I help clients build a stronger foundation for long-term well-being. Why This Approach Works: By combining CBT’s evidence-based structure with an exploration of family of origin issues, I address both the immediate symptoms and the deeper roots of clients’ struggles. Evening telehealth sessions make therapy accessible and convenient, ensuring clients can prioritize their mental health and relationships. My approach is not about quick fixes, but about equipping clients with the insight, skills, and resilience to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and clarity.
