I am Gifty Pampuru. My focus is on working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, phase of life issues, trauma and spiritual issues. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Internal Family Systems. I mostly work with adult population who struggle with anxiety, life stressors, depression, and trauma. I definitely want my client to feel comfortable with me. I do not believe that counseling has to be all serious. As we learn to pair negative moments with positive ones, I utilize humor, jokes, lived experiences (funny and tense). There are times, I have to be direct with clients (differs with clients). It was a long cherished dream since my young age to be a counselor because I was inspired by the counselors who lead our prayer group. While working as a mental health nurse and attending to my clients, I always wanted to do more that just nursing care. Of all the options, counseling was the only career I could do and though it was a long journey, I am glad I undertook it. I include the client in setting their goals. Sometimes the clients are aware of what they want to work on and other times, they need assistance. Client can expect a warm atmosphere with positive regard. They will be listened to and will be included in all decision making. At the end of the intake, they will be assisted in creating a care plan aiming towards the goals they want to reach and set their schedule.
Seeking therapy is difficult, and on top of that, trying to find the right therapist by clicking through profiles is daunting. Life sometimes presents us with challenges that leave us feeling out of control and unable to move forward. Therapy is about learning to speak about these issues, expressing your feelings, and learning healthy tools to cope and regain control. I bring experience working with diverse populations and issues, such as life transitions, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and career issues. As an immigrant, I understand the complexities of balancing cultures, navigating environments, and striving for success. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I’m dedicated to supporting you on your healing journey. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable discussing your experiences, needs, and goals. Using a holistic approach and mixed evidence-based techniques to manage symptoms and heal. My approach involves integrating evidence-based therapeutic practices to match each client, as everyone is unique and has their own demands. We will work together to identify core values, unconscious thoughts, and negative self-concepts to ultimately achieve personal growth. If you think we would work well together, please do not hesitate to reach out.
If you feel anxious, sad, overwhelmed, or stuck, if you are frustrated by your family or relationships, navigating a challenging life transition, or are worn out by the stress of work, life, or parenting, my practice may be a good fit for you. My therapy style is collaborative, warm, and nonjudgmental, with room for humor. Together, we will work to improve your symptoms, gain a deeper understanding of your concerns, and bring about lasting change. I have extensive experience with college students, young adults, and mid-career professionals, with a particular focus on individuals navigating life transitions such as graduation, relationship changes, and the transition to parenthood. I also work well with clients who feel stuck professionally, struggle with work-life balance, or are considering a career change.
My primary treatment approach is cognitive-behavioral which is solution-focused and generally shorter-term, however, in reality, we all generally benefit from a variety of therapeutic strategies and i will often utilize complementary and eclectic techniques that enables a more personalized treatment approach and relies on best practices for your specific issues. You will find me to be an active and engaged therapist and we will work together in a team-oriented and collaborative style. I often recommend activities to practice between sessions, and these might include a journal, trying out new communication skills and problem-solving or coping techniques that we have practiced, brief reading assignments, some research, relaxation techniques, and a variety of other options. I believe humor is an important element in the therapeutic process, and to life in general, and I strive to create a relaxing and trusting environment with my clients. I am very happy to answer any questions you might have, and if I am unsure, I will do all that I can to help point you in the right direction. I consider it an honor to assist clients on their personal journey in therapy. Participating in therapy is an important step in reclaiming your happiness and satisfaction and I take me role in providing assistance on that journey seriously as I appreciate the time, cost, and emotional investment of this choice.
With nearly three decades of experience, I provide warm, collaborative therapy that fosters deep and lasting change. My practice, available to clients in Washington, DC, Maryland, and California, offers a dedicated space for thoughtful exploration -- a place to feel heard, understood, supported, and, yes, sometimes gently challenged. My goal is to help you gain a fresh perspective and cultivate the internal strength and resilience needed to move toward a more fulfilling life. Whether you're struggling with unsatisfying or difficult relationships, significant losses, navigating transitions, stress, anxiety, trauma, or perhaps you're simply feeling stuck or confused, together we will work to understand how your life experiences and choices shaped you, helping you find your own path forward with clarity and intention. Sometimes therapy will be focused on having the support and guidance to work through past experiences. Other times it will be providing the hope and scaffolding needed to discover aspects of yourself until you are confident enough to make personal changes. Often it is a blend of both of these things. Whatever you are experiencing, working with a therapist who offers compassion and a discerning ear provides a unique relationship where the focus is on you, your challenges and your potential for growth. When you're ready to explore what’s been weighing on you, let's meet in a space created specifically to feel heard and understood. I offer highly personalized therapy while ensuring the process remains practical and effective. In addition to talk therapy I may integrate mind-body techniques such as somatic awareness, EMDR, and 12-Step support when appropriate. My goal is to help you tap into your strengths and emotional resilience, while supporting you in making meaningful changes that lead to a richer, more rewarding life. WE CAN HELP HEAL YOUR RELATIONSHIP. "Why does my partner overreact?" "Why do I get so triggered?" "How come the punishment doesn't fit the crime?" “Why can’t he be more supportive?” “Is anything I do ever enough for her?” While you are feeling hurt, you have an added layer of confusion. You simultaneously love your partner and even hope to stay in this relationship to keep your love, family, and dreams intact. You are torn in a tug-of-war of emotions and desire to feel understood, accepted, and embraced by your partner. HEAL YOUR RELATIONSHIP AT ITS ROOT! Your dynamic is being driven by vulnerable and deep emotions. Those deep emotions are sensitive ‘raw spots' that are easily provoked and can cause you intolerable emotional discomfort- and leads to a “fight-or-flight” (anxious, angry, avoidant) response. This starts a negative cycle that creates more distance between you. CHANGE IS POSSIBLE! In therapy with us, you will learn strategies to respond differently and avoid slipping into old negative cycles of criticism, questioning, defensiveness, shutting down, and avoidance. We’ve helped HUNDREDS of people experience EMOTIONAL INTIMACY by learning how to effectively share and receive each other’s deeper emotions.
My philosophy and approach to helping clients is to do a thorough assessment and develop a treatment plan that is characteristic of that client and guide clients through therapy to healing. Each client has a uniqueness about them and my work is finding it and helping that client realize it and live in it. Perception is the key to understanding. Awareness is the key to realization.
