I provide a safe, non-biased, and non-judgmental environment. My work is client-centered so that the therapeutic relationship is productive and developmental.
I am an internationally-known couples therapist, workshop presenter, and clinical trainer. In 2010, I founded the Tikkun Learning Center, an educational institution through which I train, supervise, and consult therapists in Encounter-centered Couples Therapy (EcCT). EcCT is an extremely effective method with proven success in teaching couples who to re-create the magic of connection. EcCT is an integrative approach inspired by the philosophy of Martin Buber, as well as a variety of relational methodologies including Imago Relationship Therapy, Appreciative Inquiry, Re-evaluation Counseling, and Relational Neuro-biology. I have developed a unique, customized, transformational two-day private session for one couple. You will receive my full attention, expertise and mastery, and I will introduce you to the groundbreaking and pragmatic principle of the three invisible connectors: "the Space, the Bridge, and the Encounter."
Welcome to my practice. I believe in the power of a strong therapeutic relationship to nurture change. I offer my clients a warm, collaborative, judgment-free environment where they can comfortably explore their challenges. I foster insight, offer support, and collaborate with my clients to establish new coping skills to effect meaningful change in their lives. I provide individual psychotherapy for adults who are facing a wide range of concerns. I welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and identities. I specialize in helping my clients manage anxiety, depression, identity issues, relationship concerns, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, and working with the LGBT community as an affirming therapist. I also have experience working in university counseling centers, which offers me unique insight into the issues facing undergraduates, graduate students, and young professionals. I have also received advanced training in the assessment and treatment of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders through Postpartum Support International, which allows me to help new parents as they navigate perinatal mental health concerns.
You want more for yourself in every way: mentally, physically, and emotionally. But lately, the pressure is weighing on you. The constant racing thoughts, the anxiety about what's coming next, the self-doubt that keeps you second-guessing every decision, and the overwhelming sense of helplessness that makes it hard to stay afloat. You deserve to break free from this cycle and regain control. Life can feel like a constant juggling act—work, relationships, and the pressure to always be "on." If you’re burnt out, overwhelmed, or just feeling stuck in the chaos of modern life, you’re not alone. As your therapist, I’m here to help you make sense of the mess and give you the tools to regain balance. You don’t have to have it all figured out—life is messy. We’ll dive into the pressures you’re facing and help you recognize that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. You’ll learn evidence-based strategies like CBT and mindfulness to reduce stress, set boundaries, and make space for what truly matters to you—without guilt or burnout. Therapy is about your growth, not a race. Whether you need quick relief or long-term support, we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you. Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be fulfilling. Together, we’ll create a plan to help you thrive, even through the messiness. Ready to stop just surviving and start thriving? Let’s work together to build a resilient life you love. Everyone handles life's challenges differently with different levels of support. All it takes is one supportive person in your life to be the catalyst for change. I can be that support.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." To me, life is a journey. There will be many bumps, bruises, and obstacles along the way. That's okay. It's how you overcome those hurdles that count. Some need more assistance than others on this journey, and that's okay too. My approach is to promote healing and personal growth and development along this journey called life. I do not claim to have all of the answers. I believe that everyone is the expert of their own lives. My role is to assist you with getting out of your own way and discovering the path that you want to follow.
I work to foster an environment of open communication, where clients feel safe to express knowing they won't be judged or their concerns disregarded.
Life can present you with difficult situations which are hard to process and move past. These challenges are not on your timeline and affect everything. Having worked in many healthcare settings, I am familiar navigating life-changing events and grief. I understand the territory of encountering loss, coping with trauma, the complexity of the medical system and living with illness. Together we will face any changes, fears, anxiety and emotions you are experiencing, allowing you to gain more grounding and peace. I will work with you from an integrative, holistic approach to determine together what is needed for your coping, healing and self-care.
Our own minds can multiply, confuse, and perpetuate the inevitable pain in life, or heal us to greater joy, love, and creativity. I will work with you to master your imaginative creation and to steer toward the life you choose with effective strategies. Building on your strengths and the best parts of your life, we will work together to resolve your problems and fulfill your highest dreams. Tools: I have an exciting new tool in my tool box: Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It is so new that it is not among the modalities on this website but it's been around long enough for research to validate it as "evidence based." Most soldiers with PTSD have gotten good results and have completed therapy by the 3rd session. I am so thrilled with the helpfulness of A.R.T. that I have worked to become a trainer in this method. Find out more about it online. Please see my own website (above) for a link. MindBody Health: I am fascinated by how our minds relate to our bodies and vice versa. Two areas of research demonstrate how strong the connection is. 1. Adverse Childhood Events are correlated with major health problems later in life. And 2, excessive negative stress is often followed by illness. The first can be transformed using Accelerated Resolution therapy. You have resources now that can be brought to the child who experienced trauma. The second, stress, can be relieved, in many ways to protect and care for your body. Together, perhaps we will create self-hypnotic recordings to align the power of your mind with the health of your body. Some health problems, such as allergies to pets and airborne substances, seem to respond especially well to this approach. We are only beginning to know the extent to which our minds can affect our physical health. For me, there is enough evidence to direct the powers of my mind toward healing from any illness - in addition to taking advantage of the wisdom of my doctors.
I think the most important part of being a good therapist is genuinely caring about the well-being of the people I work with. I am an empathic therapist, and work to create a warm and welcoming environment for those I see in therapy. This sets a foundation that enables us to talk about what brings you to therapy, whether it be hopes, struggles, fears, conflicts, etc. Together, we will explore your concerns and wishes, and uncover what is standing between what life is like now and what you want it to be. I will help you recognize and understand the barriers that keep you from feeling the way you want to feel, and work with you to break through those barriers, which can result in greater satisfaction in relationships, work, and day-to-day life. I also provide support and guidance for those experiencing life transitions, such as marriage, children, loss, divorce, and those new to the city who are having trouble adjusting. I think that it is important to recognize that, although we all have limitations, we also have strengths and resources. I have a flexible approach to therapy, and have been trained in a number of different modalities that allow me to cater to your specific needs.
Here at Acacia Counseling & Consultative Services, we realize that no two people are the same, and we tailor our therapy to meet your specific needs as an individual. We love helping people understand the things that are holding them back with an in-depth approach. After recognizing underlying problems, clients can fully realize their strengths and adjust certain behaviors and thoughts to see things in a different, healthier way. Our practice specializes in helping people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma. If you are trying to navigate these areas of life, we’re confident that we have the experience to help you rediscover what brings happiness to your life. Through therapy, there is always a way to address the issues you face and learn coping strategies to help you both right now and in the future. Through therapy, we can get you on track to leading a happier, more fulfilling life by equipping you with the tools you need to more efficiently and confidently manage life’s challenges. It is never too late to start living the life you’ve always wanted.
If we could think our way into the life we wanted, we would already be there. But healing and growth is not simply about thinking. It is about attending to our feelings, accepting ourselves where we are, and believing in possibilities. The Four Corners Counseling & Well-being way of therapy, practiced by the founder, Hetty Barnett, and all associates: For Thinking Women (and Men, too): Are you struggling to feel better about yourself and your life? If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, if your relationships are causing pain or confusion, we can help. We know from hard-earned experience that being an intelligent "over-functioner" does not mean we can easily soothe our emotional pain and create a balanced life. My associates and I can help you tap into your inner wisdom and strength to create the life you desire. For couples on the brink: At Four Corners Counseling & Well-being, we believe that couples deserve a safe space and a competent therapist to help them navigate their relationship, and move beyond problems to possibilities. This work is sacred, and couples who seek our help are doing so not only for themselves, but for the benefit of their children (if there are any), for their families, and for future generations. We have no pre-determined expectation of how a relationship will unfold. We do firmly believe that any work the members of a couple do to speak for their feelings (not from them) and listen to their partner from a grounded sense of self can reap many benefits in the future, no matter what the outcome. People can grow; people DO grow as they work with me. It takes a village to raise a relationship, and we want to be part of that village. Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy: We are trained in IFS, the fastest growing therapy model today. As a clinical treatment, IFS has been rated effective for improving general functioning and well-being. In addition, it has been rated promising for improving phobia, panic, and generalized anxiety disorders; trauma resolution; physical health conditions; personal resilienceself-concept; and depression and depressive symptoms. Internal Family Systems can help clients learn ways to better relate to themselves, and move toward the 8 C’s of Self-Leadership: calmness, curiosity, clarity, compassion, confidence, creativity, courage, and connectedness.

Solution-Focused therapy emphasizes building on your existing strengths and resources to create positive change quickly. This approach appeals to many Ashburn residents who prefer practical, results-oriented strategies.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches valuable skills for managing intense emotions and improving relationships. This approach is especially helpful for individuals dealing with stress from high-pressure work environments.
Psychodynamic therapy explores unconscious patterns and past experiences that influence current behavior. This deeper approach can be transformative for those seeking long-term personal growth.
Interpersonal therapy focuses on improving communication and relationship skills, which is valuable in both personal and professional contexts common in Ashburn's collaborative work culture.
Many Ashburn therapists offer specialized services including couples counseling for busy dual-career families, family therapy to navigate parenting challenges, and trauma therapy for those dealing with past experiences or recent life changes.
