My Approach to Therapy

Counseling provides an opportunity to examine your relationships, beliefs, values, and feelings in a safe, nonjudgmental setting. Counseling promotes skill development in problem solving, decision-making, and effective communication—all methods that improve your relationships with the significant others in your life. My approach is eclectic, drawing from several psychological approaches to therapy: cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and humanistic client-centered therapy. Most people generally benefit from a variety of techniques. My counseling practice is based on multicultural counseling principles, with a social justice perspective. People from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds are welcome. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I honor the spirituality, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and cultural background of all my clients. I strive to understand your worldview and work with you as you make decisions about your life. The scope of my practice includes individual adults.

My Practice & Services

Before scheduling an appointment, contact your healthcare provider/insurance company to find out what your coverage is for mental health or behavioral health care. Be informed to avoid owing money. I offer a sliding scale for those who do not have insurance.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My focus is on helping the client explore and examine the issue(s) causing distress in his/her life. Counselors are trained to listen actively, help clarify, describe, and define thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in ways that assist the client with gaining a deeper understanding of his/her issues.
