My Approach to Therapy

I believe the therapeutic relationship can promote healing, and that therapy does not have to be an intimidating experience. I am warm and genuine and will always respect where you are on your journey. I work with adults and adolescents, and my area of interest is trauma therapy, grief therapy, and helping clients with their relationships. I utilize an approach based on CBT and psychodynamic theories, in addition to EMDR. I like to tailor treatment to the unique needs of my clients. I incorporate a zen-like frame of mind to life and its problems, and I strive to create a tranquil and safe space.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Studies suggest that the therapeutic relationship is more important than a particular skill or theory that is used. I firmly believe this. Your inner voice will inform you as to whether or not a therapist can assist you. Listen to that voice, and always advocate for yourself. A good therapist believes their client is the expert in what they need. Therapy must provide a corrective emotional experience... trust that the therapeutic process will work as intended.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

Therapy, if done correctly, is simple conversation. I am a clinician who approaches my work with "compassionate curiosity". I enjoy listening to a client's narrative, and getting to know my clients holistically. I do not think clients have to be problem focused at each therapy session. Clients can feel free to conversate about whatever they want, and new ideas, new feelings, and new behaviors will organically emerge from those conversations.
