My Approach to Therapy
Welcome—I'm glad you found your way here :)
I'm Carly, a registered clinical counselor (RCC) specializing in trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy for adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), academic and career anxiety, burnout recovery, trauma and complex posttraumatic stress (CPTSD), self-esteem, and grief. I practice relationally, from an unyielding belief in human resilience and potential. My style is warm and patient, and my techniques are grounded in neuroscience and practical resilience strategies, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and internal family systems (IFS). I am also a lived experience therapist. I provide counseling on the focuses that I do because I have both significant clinical training on these topics, as well as a deep personal understanding of these experiences. I know how important it is to work with someone who gets it!
I believe every human has the capacity to grow through even their most painful struggles. I also know navigating trauma, dysregulation, and life disruptions can be overwhelming and confusing—that's why I offer more than just deep listening and radical acceptance, while I believe these are very important foundations. In the therapeutic work I do, I focus on facilitating and deepening your understanding of, and connection to, yourself. But I also lean in with guidance during the intake process, getting to know your therapeutic concerns, as well as when you're stuck or not sure how to proceed on what we've discovered.
I'll simplify this to say, I am collaborative in defining your therapeutic needs and growth goals, and active in helping you get there. I bring in therapies I am trained in (dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems, and emotionally focused therapy) as perspective-shifting tools, techniques, and practices to help translate self-insight into more effective regulation, build skills for meeting the needs under your pain, and help you redirect stuck patterns. If you are overwhelmed and aren't sure where to start, that's okay—I'm here to help make sense of what's going on and what would be therapeutically beneficial.
