Sometimes, it is the stigma around mental health that makes seeking help so difficult. I think differently. I recognize the courage it takes to ask for help. I commend those who are willing to prioritize self-improvement over silent suffering. The people I work with strive to become better people, more active in their community and family, feel more comfortable in their identity, and are better able to handle the obstacles of life. I believe to be an effective psychologist I need to be honest and direct, or put it colloquially, I will call you on your stuff. A therapeutic relationship is one of the most under-respected tools today. There is great value in having an independent third party in your corner to help handle life's challenges.
