My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
I believe mental health care should feel like a partnership. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or just feeling off balance, my goal is to meet you where you are, with compassion, steadiness, and clinical expertise. I offer thoughtful medication management that supports clarity and emotional regulation, often in collaboration with therapists and other providers. My approach is calm, trauma-informed, and rooted in trust. I know that starting or returning to care can feel overwhelming, and I strive to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we’ll find a treatment path that aligns with your goals and helps you move forward with confidence.
My approach to helping my clients is nonjudgmental, strength-based, and curious. Through the use of several psychodynamic approaches and applied Jungian analysis, I am able to help clients transform their lives by exploring their self-concept and improving their self-esteem. I believe that a nonjudgmental approach helps us uncover painful patterns and past experiences while fostering sustainable self-reflection.
It takes courage to seek help for your personal struggles, and it takes persistence to keep trying. I learned this myself as a young college student facing painful life challenges. The help my own therapist offered me inspired me to offer assistance to others. I have more than 27 years of experience working with adults and adolescents in individual and family settings. I offer a well-trained ear to listen to your problems, as well as caring, warmth, and the ability to ask the right questions. My office is a safe and confidential place that allows you to explore painful losses, anxiety, relationship challenges, past trauma and pain, and unhealthy habits. I maintain healthy boundaries while being genuine and empathetic. Although I've been practicing for many years, I believe that life is a learning process and education never ends. I work in consultation with supervisors and colleagues so that I remain up-to-date on the most effective treatments. I'll do everything I can to offer you the help you seek, but if there is a way in which I can't assist you, I'll help you find the resources you need. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and know that I admire the bravery it takes to embark on the path toward healing and change.
Clients seek my guidance and support for various reasons, but ultimately it comes down to: They want to feel better. This is where I step on board, you no longer walk the walk alone. We figure out what exactly it means to feel better and then how to get there. What is missing that you think will create more happiness? What is currently happening that is impeding you, sinking you, creating an obstacle to lightness or fulfillment? I will ask you thought-provoking questions, offer alternative perspectives (I often hear, "Hmm, I never thought about it that way"), and invest in you, as a person, and the realization of your happiness.
Life is hard. We all face seasons of winter, where a disruption leads to feelings of grief, loneliness, anger, or anxiety. Even desired change can trigger difficult emotional experiences and heightened stress. Our modern life is so crowded with demands that many of us feel overextended, under supported, and disconnected from ourselves and others. At times, it can be difficult to find meaning and purpose in our lives and relationships. Few of us were taught how to recognize and metabolize emotional experiences or how to navigate interpersonal difficulties. My goal is to create a space where you will feel heard and understood, but also challenged and empowered to explore your life and make lasting change. Together, we will work to identify and begin to challenge and modify interpersonal patterns, habits, and beliefs that that are keeping you stuck. I pull from different modalities to meet your needs. Sometimes, we might have an exploratory session to increase self awareness or self compassion. Other times, we might engage in active behavioral experiments or exposures. Through our work together, you will learn to build skill and confidence to manage life’s stressors. While individual goals vary, I aim to help my clients live more consciously with more clarity and a better understanding and acceptance of self.
Dr. Fuller aims to minimize the frequency and intensity of the client's suffering and emotional pain, as well as self-defeating patterns, and he helps the client to develop skills leading to life satisfaction and goal achievement. In doing this, Dr. Fuller places a strong emphasis on cognitive-behavioral theory (CBT) and associated techniques. Dr. Fuller tailors these and other techniques to the needs of the individual. This approach helps clients successfully overcome present issues, whether they are long-standing (chronic) or critical (acute) issues. Scientifically-based methods are highlighted, and when there are no empirically supported treatments, reliance on theory and clinical judgment is utilized to provide clients with comprehensive and customized treatment of his or her particular conditions. He emphasizes the present, while helping clients to understand how relationships and historical events may still be affecting their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors today. Active methods of dealing with the here-and-now are stressed. Clients rapidly learn behavioral and cognitive skills that allow them to effectively deal with circumstances in their life.
The relationship between psychotherapist and client is of utmost importance in my practice- feeling understood, accepted and not judged. With my extensive experience in the field both as a practitioner and a teacher, having a foundation of knowledge of human psychological development and unconscious processes is requisite to being able to listen to and understand what people are expressing, both within their awareness and what may not be accessible to them without professional help. I work with each person based on what their individual needs are.
It takes courage to change - to look at what is driving self neglect, sabotage, anxiety, depression, and feeling stuck. Externally appearing successful, but deep inside, feeling like an imposter - "if only they knew how I feel". I act as a co-piolet and collaborator to help you become empowered to get to where you want to be professionally, in relationships, and in self care. Negative experiences in relationships, current and past have a way of showing up again, and again. I help you unable that web so you don't keep repeating it. so that you can move forward to begin to live an empowered fulfilling life. I help you get to the other side of feeling "I am not worthwhile", I am "unloveable". In addition to working individually, I am a group psychotherapist and have over 30 years of experience treating college aged young adults and adults with anxiety, depression, histories of trauma - present and past, self neglect and sabotage are central to my work. I have several sub specialties - weight regulation - eating disorders; women's health issues; couples issues.

I believe therapy is a way toward a fuller, more satisfying life. Together we will journey past the obstacles to greater self-esteem, more satisfying relationships, work and play. I engage actively with you but am guided by your individual needs and wishes. I believe therapy can help you to find ways to expand the strengths you already have and add new skills, experiences and ways of seeing yourself. I work in an eclectic manner and am particularly interested in the unity of body and mind. How we think and feel are intimately connected and I am interested in bringing together the various dichotomies that confound us: thoughts and feelings, past and future, work and creativity, self and other.
I am a psychoanalyst, graduate of the Training and Research Institute of Self Psychology, an EMDR practitioner, and a sandplay therapist trained through the Sandplay Therapists of America, which has a Jungian foundation. My experience with children and families as a consultant for high schools, elementary schools, preschools and clinics has shaped my ability to work intuitively and spontaneously in a wide variety of circumstances. My experience as a professional artist and my meditation practice also greatly inform my work. My partner, William Murray, PhD, and I have formed Keene Murray Therapy and have an office across from Prospect Park in Brooklyn. We also work long distance on the phone and Skype. Besides our individual work, we offer workshops, CDs and dual-therapist couples therapy. Our work at Keene Murray Therapy is: Creative shaped both by an immersion in a variety of psychological approaches and an extensive background in creative arts. Respectful We recognize that our clients are the only ones who can truly tell their story. Our function is to help clients identify and achieve their goals. Non-pathologizing We believe that most problems are simply former solutions that no longer work. We help clients discover more adaptive means to meet life's challenges. Collaborative We value the interpersonal quality of a therapeutic relationship that acknowledges the effects and influences that both client and therapist contribute. Depth-oriented Experience has shown us that significant change has its roots in the multi-layered interconnectedness of a person's inner life. We accompany clients as they explore and learn to navigate this strange and exciting territory.
