I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and have more than 20 years of experience as a mental health clinician. I have extensive experience helping children, adults, and families. I have a heart for people who are struggling with issues of everyday life. Day after day, we feel pressures and struggles that can turn us into people we don't want to be. I want to help you overcome these problems and difficult situations. I believe everyone can change because personalities and brains are flexible and adaptive. I use Cognitive-Behavioral, DBT, Integrative-Solution-Focused, Mindfulness intervention (Included NLP & Vibroacoustic Sound Therapy). Clients learn to make sense of themselves, to understand core problems, to let go of bad habits, and learn a healthy way forward in life. I believe that you are ready, have unlimited personal resources to reach your full potentiality. Let's work together to reach your goals in life! My office has a beautiful and professional atmosphere. You are one step closer to change. You can email or call me to set up an appointment.
Our own minds can multiply, confuse, and perpetuate the inevitable pain in life, or heal us to greater joy, love, and creativity. I will work with you to master your imaginative creation and to steer toward the life you choose with effective strategies. Building on your strengths and the best parts of your life, we will work together to resolve your problems and fulfill your highest dreams. Tools: I have an exciting new tool in my tool box: Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It is so new that it is not among the modalities on this website but it's been around long enough for research to validate it as "evidence based." Most soldiers with PTSD have gotten good results and have completed therapy by the 3rd session. I am so thrilled with the helpfulness of A.R.T. that I have worked to become a trainer in this method. Find out more about it online. Please see my own website (above) for a link. MindBody Health: I am fascinated by how our minds relate to our bodies and vice versa. Two areas of research demonstrate how strong the connection is. 1. Adverse Childhood Events are correlated with major health problems later in life. And 2, excessive negative stress is often followed by illness. The first can be transformed using Accelerated Resolution therapy. You have resources now that can be brought to the child who experienced trauma. The second, stress, can be relieved, in many ways to protect and care for your body. Together, perhaps we will create self-hypnotic recordings to align the power of your mind with the health of your body. Some health problems, such as allergies to pets and airborne substances, seem to respond especially well to this approach. We are only beginning to know the extent to which our minds can affect our physical health. For me, there is enough evidence to direct the powers of my mind toward healing from any illness - in addition to taking advantage of the wisdom of my doctors.
These are 6 areas of therapy that I'm passionate about and in which I specialize. I'd love to work with you if: 1) you struggle with anxiety or depression 2) need help with relationships or a betrayal, 3) have experienced something traumatic or suspect you have unresolved trauma 4) are grieving the loss someone or something 5) need help recovering from an addiction, or 6) are going through a crisis of faith or want to grow spiritually. My counseling style is active, engaging and collaborative, using an approach that integrates proven therapeutic concepts and techniques. My graduate degree in Counseling is from Johns Hopkins University. I believe in the intrinsic worth of all human beings. I believe that many people do not see their value because it is overshadowed by the shame caused by their perceptions of who they should be and what they should be achieving. There are many reasons why these distortions exist; but one thing is for certain, it creates a feeling of being a fraud and deep shame. A lot of time and energy is used to counteract this secret shame. I feel that it is important to help teens and adults to become authentic and accepting of their strengths and weaknesses instead of putting our emotional and physical energy in denying and being afraid of our humanness. It is exhausting and paralyzing to be so afraid of our imperfections. I believe there is value in accepting our own humanity. We have to climb off our self imposed pedestal which is secretive and isolating and connect with other human beings without the fear of being discovered a fraud. It is so freeing and meaningful.
If you are dealing with overwhelming emotions, especially if you’re someone who has already tried to get help with them and not made the progress you’d hoped for, it’s easy to become convinced that these emotions will always rule the day. Emotional pain is created when we forget our own power, our innate connection to the resources of the Universe. My mission is simply to help you reconnect with your own power by teaching techniques needed to master those overwhelming feelings - to shrink them, reevaluate them, and put them into your past where they belong. What would it feel like if your emotions ceased to control your life? The work we do together will give you the ability to remove the emotional charge from troublesome issues in your life. I act as a guide to your journey of self-discovery. I see myself as a mirror, and my job is to show you who you are, empowering you to make the changes you want to make. The methods that I employ are gentle, effective, and easy for clients to learn and use, and place power squarely in your hands (not in mine). I do a lot of listening in my sessions, but I’ve found that talking stuff out doesn’t get rid of it. Growing in wisdom about how to think about things and make choices can be helpful, but that comes second behind dealing with the problems at their source. I show you how to do this for yourself.
I am passionate about working with childrenl having difficulties with anxiety and emotional dysregulation. I utilize cognitive behavioral strategies, relaxation techniques, and other approaches based on the needs of the individual. In my spare time, I like walking my dog and spending time with my family and friends.
Talking about sex and problematic sexual behaviors is often stigmatized by society, family or culture. My main goal is provide a safe place where one can openly discuss sexual concerns and we can work together to determine if they are problematic or to discuss the impact of another's sexual behaviors on you. Too often, it is assumed that therapy around sexual addiction or sexuality is about stopping one's sexual behavior. Here, we work to define your sexuality as an individual. Work may include trauma focused work in order to gain access to underlying concerns, or it may involve sex education to best claim your sexuality. Working with loved ones of sex addicts, including parents, often includes shame reduction and healthy boundary work. Whatever the work is, you are part of the treatment team and the most important part of guiding therapy.
