My communication style is warm, collaborative, and focused on your unique needs and goals. I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to process your experiences and emotions.
As a practicing board-certified art therapist and licensed professional counselor, I offer an individualized and integrative approach based upon your needs. I provide psychotherapeutic services drawn from a variety of psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive approaches that utilize both verbal and non-verbal forms of self-expression. Art therapy can provide a safe outlet for expressing emotions. I value guiding individuals toward developing connections and insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and creating new spaces for healing through authentic, supportive dialogue. Emotions can be difficult to express, feel and identify- and it can be difficult to navigate them on our own. You may be seeking my professional services in order to work through an internal struggle, alleviate emotional pain, improve relationships, explore obstacles to greater life satisfaction, increase a sense of balance and stability, andor experience an alternative way of expressing feelings and thoughts using imagery and metaphor. I hope to create a genuine connection with anyone who believes they are in need of support and believes that healing can occur in a safe, warm, and supportive therapeutic relationship.

I have a deep regard and respect for a person who is on a healing journey. I look at each person individually. You come with your own unique life experiences and health goals. Through assessment and goal setting, we come up with your own unique treatment plan. My belief is we are total system and my approach is to support you in a Holistic matter; Body, Mind, and Spirit; using powerful tools, skill building, and compassion. My goal is to be a partner for you to achieve well-being.
Clients often describe my approach as gentle, understanding, and non-judgmental. Many clients report life-changing results after only a few EMDR sessions of processing traumatic memories. Has talk-therapy proven unsuccessful for you in the past? My training is in experiential therapy models, including EMDR, bodywork, and psychodrama, which allow us to do go places beyond talking. I specialize working with trauma, attachment issues, grief & loss, and addiction. Trauma, addiction, and loss can disrupt one's life - and often require professional help. Together, we can process the fueling factors of addiction, emotional pain, or relationship issues. I feel very blessed to bear witness to change and transformation in others (and myself!) everyday through my work. While many therapists claim to be 'trauma-informed', my practice is revolves entirely around trauma work. I've been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress - the highest status in the academy. As the Director of the Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy, I am committed to providing quality trauma therapy services in my community. For my full profile and information about my practice, visit the website on the page.
In my practice, I work with adults, defined as approximately age 20 and older. I work with individual clients, with couples, and with groups. In group therapy, the clients are almost always in individual therapy as well, with me, with my co-therapist, or with another therapist who has referred the client to the group. I work with clients presenting a variety of issues, including: *Depression Relationship Issues *Life Transitions *Anxiety *Addictive Behaviors *GLBT Issues *Anger *Grief and Loss *Sense of Self/Self-Esteem *Men's Issues *Trauma and PTSD *Partners of Abuse Survivors *Adult Children of Alcoholic/Dysfunctional/Abuse Families *Couples Issues, including Re-Marriage, Extramarital Relationships, and Step-Families I have had experience working with diverse groups of people. I have been a consulting psychologist to an orthodox yeshiva, I have worked with Catholic seminarians, I have taught and supervised trainees in a largely Catholic Pastoral Counseling program, and I have taken numerous workshops in working with Gay, Bi, and Lesbian, and Questioning clients. In addition, I have been involved in Multicultural work since 2001, and seek to keep an open mind and continuously question my assumptions about people whose lives are different from mine. I believe that psychotherapy is an interactive process that calls for both the client and the therapist to be as fully involved as possible. Therefore, I participate actively with my patients, sharing my thoughts, impressions, and reactions to what we are talking about. I believe that people can change even long-standing patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior if THEY participate actively. My job is to create a space where clients can be curious and learn about the ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that they bring to their lives, and about how these ways work for them and against them. I create this space by bringing both my professional training and understanding and my human compassion, empathy, and respect. In my practice, I typically meet with people once a week; if there is a need for additional support, or if we decide together that more intense work is called for, meeting twice a week can be very useful. Even meeting once a week allows clients to develop enough comfort with me and with therapy for our work to be effective and helpful. Regarding my theoretical grounding, I have intensive training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, and Existential therapeutic approaches, and I draw from each of these as the client's situation, needs, and goals call for. Some therapists subscribe to and identify with one school of thought and apply that way of thinking and working to every client. I first work to understand each client's particular issues, needs, and style of thinking and feeling. THEN, I use the approach and methods that I believe would be most useful to that patient, and remain open to using whatever else might work based on what develops. Therefore, my orientation is eclectic, and my methods are determined by the client's personality and needs.
