Resilience isn't just about enduring tough times; it's about thriving with the support of emotionally attuned relationships. Research shows that having at least one emotionally available caregiver is foundational for resilience, a truth that extends throughout our lives. The more supportive connections we have, the greater our capacity for personal growth and navigating life's challenges with clarity and connection. I bring this understanding into my work, combining dual training from the U.S. and U.K. to offer a rich perspective on trauma, addiction recovery, and family systems. My approach is integrative and relational, blending psychodynamic and Jungian theory with evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and sensorimotor techniques. This helps clients develop mind-body awareness and achieve lasting change. As both an educator and clinician, I am dedicated to helping you uncover the roots of emotional patterns, build self-awareness, and foster resilience through curiosity and compassion. My international experience allows me to tailor my approach to your unique cultural context, ensuring a personalized and inclusive therapy experience. Working with me is a journey of discovery—recognizing your true worth and unlocking your potential.
I offer mindfulness-based psychotherapy in approaching problems of living. Mindfulness-based psychotherapy is about rediscovering the experience of basic goodness, peacefulness, wisdom and calm. It is about becoming fully present. It is a bodily as well as a mental experience. Mindfulness helps the mind expand. With practice, one steadily can become aware of, rather than governed by, feelings, thoughts, and reactions. Mindfulness is a capacity to watch these things AS they are happening. As this capacity of mindfulness grows in us, that which is mindful, the one who is watching, can little by little begin to act as inner guide. You are not your problems. Even if you feel like your difficulties--including past trauma--are defining you, they are not who you are, they are something you have which you need to familiarize yourself with by learning how to listen to what your deeper nature is saying to you. Much of the suffering that brings one to therapy can be found in negative feelings and beliefs, in theories one has towards oneself. The ultimate healing can come through recognizing and reconnecting with your essential nature, verses your conditioning, seeing who exactly is there rather than defining yourself through the haze of your own or another's theories and assumptions. Everything's a rumor until it's true for you. Buddhism teaches us that our basic goodness is not an invention. It doesn't need to be created or imagined. It can't be bought or sold. And even if it becomes buried, it cannot be destroyed. Who we are becomes hidden to us by our conditioning. In that forgetfulness, in the absence of a mindful mind, we are dragged around by our thoughts and emotions (both positive & negative,) our reactions and sensations. We experience things like anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, everyday stress, tension in relationships, even stressful happiness! We believe we are the wave (our thoughts, emotions, etc.) rather than recognizing we are the ocean from which the waves of our experiences arise and return. So what can we do? Bring compassion. It may sound very simple, yet it is extremely powerful to cultivate an attitude of loving-kindness towards yourself. I know this to be true personally and have seen it over and over again in my professional life. Kindness can gently lead to understanding. From understanding, compassion can arise. Compassion is key. I will provide you the best possible care through a treatment approach that is tailored to you in a safe, respectful, supportive, collaborative healing environment.
If you have been thinking about speaking with a therapist, chances are that it’s time. Talking to a stranger about the most intimate details of your life can be an intimidating feat to overcome, and being vulnerable can be scary. That is why it's my goal to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable exploring and processing your thoughts and emotions. I recognize the importance of developing a genuine connection that feels like a ‘natural fit,’ and aim to make you feel unconditionally accepted and supported. My specialty is helping young adults and adolescents that suffer from anxiety, depression, and trauma. Much of my success has come from helping clients with transitions, relationship issues, and work-related stress. I only utilize evidence-based treatments that are clinically proven to promote mental wellness. Through increased insight and self-awareness, I help clients lead authentic, fulfilling lives that improve relationships with themselves and others.
People create meaningful change when they feel truly heard and validated. What I love most about being a therapist is having the privilege to be part of that journey—helping clients shift their perspective, face challenges, and reconnect with their sense of worth and potential so they can build a life aligned with their values. While I specialize in anxiety, panic disorders, and OCD, my work also spans a range of other areas, including support for creative professionals and those in the entertainment industry; men’s issues; sex and porn addiction; trauma; body and muscle dysmorphia; and LGBTQIA+ concerns. My foundation is in behavioral therapy, but I take an eclectic, integrative approach that draws on my specialties and certifications in CBT, ACT, ERP, and EMDR. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your concerns, and I tailor our work to meet you exactly where you are in this moment of your life. Feel free to contact me or visit my website if you’d like to learn more and find out my latest availability. We can discuss what brings you to therapy and work out a plan to get you on the path toward leading a more fulfilling life. At present, in-person spaces are currently filled. Only telehealth spaces at present.
I am a doctoral level therapist with over 20 years experience working with individuals with mental health issues, everyday problems, andor relationship issues. My approach is a collaborative one which varies with individual needs. I tend to be informal in style and actively engaged at all times. I believe that humor is an essential part of therapy. I further believe that everyone can benefit from having an impartial, insightful third party in their life. I welcome clients who might perceive themselves to be "challenging".
Christopher utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches. These approaches are brought together in different ways depending on the person or people that he is working with. The root of his therapeutic style is pastoral counseling, whereby he helps the client incorporate spiritual dimensions of both the problem(s) and the ways to move forward. He also completed an advanced specialty in behavioral health during his clinical pastoral residency at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. He is experienced working with people from a wide variety of faith backgrounds. His approach is also usually rooted in a systems understanding of the client's situation.
I start with the belief that we all have an intrinsic ability to heal. Using awareness of body, mind and emotions, we can make our lives and relationships better, get unstuck from trauma, and learn to stay in the here and now. We can create greater regulation in our nervous systems. Instead of repeating negative patterns, we can build new pathways. My clients tell me that our work together helps them gain compassion for self and others, change long-standing patterns, connect with their body, emotions, and sense of inner goodness -- and simply feel more alive. I'm a Somatic Experiencing (SE) Practitioner and an SE Training Assistant. I'm also an Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist. and a Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapist (KAP). Other modalities I'm trained in that are useful for renegotiating trauma are the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), Somatic Resilience and Regulation (SRR), and EMDR. I also use Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (effective for building parent-child attachment and parental leadership), and Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART). I'm a certified instructor of Yoga Dance and a Rape Crisis Counselor. I'm director of Mindful Therapy Brooklyn, a group practice. I created Starfish Body and Soul, a therapeutic movement program for trauma survivors.
You are taking an important step in healing and growth that will enable you to make more positive choices moving forward. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety, grief or loss, having relationship difficulties, demonstrating communication problems or just feeling "stuck," contact me at Three Steps Forward to discuss how counseling can help you. My mission is to provide a counseling experience that is comfortable, soothing and empowering. Each session is tailored to your particular needs. Together, we will clarify what you hope to gain from this experience overall. I understand that counseling may be the first opportunity for you to feel truly heard and understood. I will listen to what you say in session, as well as what you don't say, and I'll be mirroring that back to you. I can help you move past the depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. We will work together to challenge the maladaptive stories and unhealthy messages you've been carrying around with you to develop a healthier, more encouraging script that will spur you to move forward, make conscious choices, and note your progress throughout. I favor an active approach to therapy and employ many cognitive-behavioral techniques as well as an incredibly impactful tool called Rapid Transformational Therapy which incorporates Hypnosis.

My approach to therapy is Humanistic-Existential. Therapy in my view is a sacred journey to the core of one's being in search of meaning. Not unlike other explorations, here too, desire, determination, planning, and a roadmap are needed. Your therapist plays a critical role in planning and mapping your most crucial journey. There are times when psychological anguish has reached an overwhelming point by the time therapy begins. There, the 1st priority of therapy is to help the client to unpack the message enveloped in suffering. Therapy can help bring the realization that pain is the prelude to true awakening without which there can be no lasting clarity to light up your path in life. My beloved mystic, Rumi says it most eloquently in "only when you break you let the light in".
Deciding to enter psychotherapy is one of the most compassionate choices you can make for yourself. In fact, it can represent an essential turning point in your life. However, it can also sometimes feel uncomfortable to talk to someone you don't know well. That's why I provide a caring, safe environment where I will listen to you carefully and where we will work together to understand and resolve the issues with which you are struggling--both in terms of how they affect your life now and in terms of how they became issues for you in the first place. I work with adults and adolescents who are struggling with a wide range of concerns, including relationship difficulties, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, loss, low self-esteem, and many more. When you enter my office, we will talk together about what you are having difficulty with and where you are feeling stuck. I strongly believe that therapy should be an interactive process, where we work together as a team. I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale University and my master's degree in clinical social work from New York University. My theoretical approach is eclectic, but grounded in a psychodynamic approach to therapy, which means that we will work to establish benefits that not only help you right now, but can also stand the test of time. I look forward to hearing from you!
