My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
It is important to me that all people are valued and treated with compassion and respect. I feel very honored that the people I meet allow me to share in their lives--the strengths and good that they have, the difficulties, the things that are important to them, the pain, the confusion, and the journey to wellness and wholeness. The counseling process is different for each person who I see, and I encourage people to think continually about what it is that they want to overcome, develop, learn, and change. I emphasize that people are in control of their progress. I may be at times the facilitator, cheerleader, idea person, teacher, listener, or biggest fan. As we travel together on your journey, we celebrate small successes and big victories and we work through challenges to help you feel and function better.

Are you a man who is really hard on himself? Are you exhausted trying to keep everyone happy? Overwhelmed by work, family or other demands? You could be someone questioning life decisions (getting caught in "I wish I had done..."). You could also be someone who is anxious or obsesses and unable to stop the cycle. We will work as a team to uncover tools and gain insight to improve the quality of your life. I provide a judgement-free, supportive space for men. I also work with many men who are pursuing counseling for the first time. For over 20 years, my career reflects a commitment to helping others. I had the honor of receiving the 2007 WBJ Healthcare Hero award for my work in an ER (learn more at website link). Please note: At this time, I do not work with persons dealing with current legal issues. Call or email me to set up a free phone consultation.
Health and wellness are not linear and will only evolve within a dynamic and complex interplay of the many systems in our lives. I firmly believe that promoting mental health is a part of this interplay. I help my clients with exploring those systems relevant to their mental health (such as relationships, lifestyle routines with sleep and eating, problem-solving, etc.), and developing strategies and routines to promote a robust everyday experience. My approach is holistic and integrative in nature; I believe that for the mind to be healthy, the body, mind, and spiritual needs of the person need to be in alignment. The mind includes our thoughts, feelings, and actions, while the body represents how those, coupled with lifestyle and nutrition routines, manifest physically. While our spiritual experience can differ widely, it is, at its root, the connection we experience to the world we live in. This can include, but is not limited to, our personal and intimate relationships with other humans, with nature and the earth we live on, with the food we eat, with the values we set, the routines we engage in to fulfill those values, andor with a religious deity. We will work on promoting your mental “Wellth;” we can only consider ourselves wealthy when our whole being is supported and living in abundance, not just our financials.

As your therapist, I strive to create a safe and supportive space for you to heal and grow. I'm an individual and couples therapist specializing in issues such as communication barriers, work-life balance, stress and anxiety, intimacy, infidelity, breakups divorce, blended families, and increasing relationship satisfaction. I implement individualized techniques to address issues that are faced in today's relationships with self and others. With all the movement and overstimulation happening around us, it can be difficult to hear our own thoughts, let alone others. We often keep moving at full speed, not realizing how many feelings and emotions we are suppressing and avoiding. Therapy can be intimidating; you're not sure how you got here, but you're ready to shed the negative and repetitive behaviors that are not serving you. I am passionate about helping you understand the root cause of your patterns and learning how you got to where you are today, but most importantly, changing your path to reach your future goals and where you ultimately want to be. I'll help you develop skills to communicate, build confidence, and feel understood in a safe space for open conversations through exploration and collaboration with a direct, nonjudgmental approach. Together, we will create a long-term lifestyle change that you will be able to maintain and feel fulfilled with.
My approach focuses on helping individuals have hope and belief in the knowledge that they can live a life of fulfillment and contentment. It feels like no one understands and nothing can be done, but with help and we all need help from time to time; life can feel worth living. A number of theories are used according to the unique needs you may have. I became a therapist because I love to connect with others on a deeper level. Every since I was about 5 years old, I knew I wanted to be a Social Worker. When we would play house, I would be the social worker.
