I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I offer individual psychotherapy, couples therapy and psychotherapy supervision and consultation.. I am grounded in psychodynamic relational theory and I also use a broad range of methods and theories to tailor therapy to the goals and needs of each individual or couple. I am also an Emeritus Associate Professor at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. And I supervise therapists in training and in practice and have taught supervision seminars at several New York postgraduate training institutes. I work with adolescents and adults who are coping with anxiety, depression, loss, life crises, problems in intimate relationships, and troubling patterns of behavior. I have extensive training and years of experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy, couples therapy, Schema Therapy, and CBT. In my work with patients, I aim to provide collaborative, supportive, yet challenging experiences in which patients can access their inner strengths, hope, and get out of the self fulfilling prophecies that have kept them stuck and demoralized. I help people discover the unfinished business from their childhoods and work to reduce its hold on them.
Finding the right therapist can be a very confusing and overwhelming process! On your initial visit, I will spend a generous amount of time with you on your presenting concerns and your goals for therapy. Having 16 years of experience, I can accurately assess the type of therapy that would be most useful for your specific situation. My specialty is Cognitive Behavior Therapy and I find most clients achieve significant progress with this approach. When you work with me, together we'll break down your patterns of thinking and behaviors that cause anxiety, depression, and hold you back from enjoying life. You will develop the skills to feel better and create positive change. Many clients find my style a "very refreshing" change from their former therapy. In couples therapy, I use a highly structured format that enables couples to communicate in a way they never have before. This new way of communication gets right to the core issues. My approach to couples therapy brings resolution to issues much faster than traditional therapy. I am available by phone to discuss any questions or concerns you have before beginning therapy.
I provide a warm and safe yet dynamic environment in which clients share their innermost thoughts, heal wounds, gain insight and learn to live with more confidence, humor and joy. As a supervising Licensed Psychologist with 25 years of experience, I am able to quickly attune and put clients at ease. I am genuine, intentional and spontaneous in the room, which lends itself to a truly collaborative and growth-promoting experience. While treatment duration is need based, some positive change can be expected rapidly. My therapeutic approach is broadly psychodynamic yet integrative. I work closely with my clients to understand and transform their concerns within the context of their formative relationships while integrating techniques from diverse models to facilitate growth and healing. In addition to Psychodynamic-Relational Psychotherapy, I have advanced training in Bowenian Family Systems Therapy, Intersubjective and Humanistic Psychotherapies, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, The Transtheoretical and Harm-Reduction Models of Behavior Change, higher education mental health, play therapy, consulting psychology, and suicide prevention. My life-long exploration into global, intuitive, and somatic therapies has further shaped me. I welcome any questions about getting started. ~ Jennifer Neuhof, PsyD
