I am passionate about supporting clients through challenging times, and believe therapy should be a safe, supportive place where you can feel truly heard and understood. I work with adults and couples facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), relationship struggles, family conflict, and major life transitions. My primary focus is creating a nurturing space where you can feel understood and empowered, and can explore, heal, and grow. My approach is warm and collaborative. I use evidence-based practices, but I also bring compassion and real-life perspective to our work together. My background combines psychology, leadership, and coaching, which helps me see the whole person—not just the problem—and guide clients in finding practical tools for healing and growth. I believe everyone deserves to live a life filled with joy, purpose, and connection. With the right support, change is possible. I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey of healing and growth. Please reach out if you’d like to schedule a complimentary consultation.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS!!! TELEHEALTH and INDIVIDUAL Therapy AVAILABLE!! Since 1994, my systemic training has enabled me to specialize in treating issues such as mood disorders (depression), anxiety, grief & loss, divorce separation, relationship, stage of life, motivation and family of origin issues. Psychotherapy is meant to address the roots of mental and emotional struggle. We will focus on the holistic aspect of your life to equip you to make the effective change you desire. Together we can explore your strengths and challenges, discovering over time what motivates you and helps you thrive. I have a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Chapman University. My Masters program had a family systemic emphasis, but also equipped me to effectively address the complex and interwoven issues that individuals face. I have over 20 years experience working with clients of all ages. It’s essential that we look at all the varied influences on life that impact thoughts and behavior. No one lives on an island and there are many influences that directly affect how we feel and what we do. We believe it is important to consider these influences during the counseling and treatment process.
I've found that the most crucial part of therapy is establishing a comfortable, collaborative therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment to explore and gain insight into all of life's misfortunes and hang-ups, and take action towards fulfilling your goals and dreams.

You are not alone. Life can seem pretty unmanageable without added difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and addiction. However, you are not alone. How do you deal with racing thoughts? Do you find yourself often ignoring thoughts only to be kept up by them when you're trying to go to bed? I have helped several clients seeking assistance for mental health or behavioral issues, but I consider myself to be first and foremost a person who wants to help you deal with life's challenges. Together we can work to help provide clarity and balance in your life. I understand how certain issues such as addiction plague your daily life and those you care about. I provide strategies and techniques in a safe, judgment-free atmosphere where together we discuss your challenges and how to overcome them. Some people are frightened to go to therapy because of financial costs, anxiety about what to expect with therapy, andor not used to discussing their feelings. Talking to the people in your support system is encouraged but sometimes external assistance is necessary and that's ok too. I am here to help and support you in dealing with problems that may be holding you back. Some individuals are not ready to discuss their issues and that is okay. Since therapy is a mutual relationship, we are working together to help you grow mentally and emotionally stronger. You are not alone.
In my practice, I work with adults, defined as approximately age 20 and older. I work with individual clients, with couples, and with groups. In group therapy, the clients are almost always in individual therapy as well, with me, with my co-therapist, or with another therapist who has referred the client to the group. I work with clients presenting a variety of issues, including: *Depression Relationship Issues *Life Transitions *Anxiety *Addictive Behaviors *GLBT Issues *Anger *Grief and Loss *Sense of Self/Self-Esteem *Men's Issues *Trauma and PTSD *Partners of Abuse Survivors *Adult Children of Alcoholic/Dysfunctional/Abuse Families *Couples Issues, including Re-Marriage, Extramarital Relationships, and Step-Families I have had experience working with diverse groups of people. I have been a consulting psychologist to an orthodox yeshiva, I have worked with Catholic seminarians, I have taught and supervised trainees in a largely Catholic Pastoral Counseling program, and I have taken numerous workshops in working with Gay, Bi, and Lesbian, and Questioning clients. In addition, I have been involved in Multicultural work since 2001, and seek to keep an open mind and continuously question my assumptions about people whose lives are different from mine. I believe that psychotherapy is an interactive process that calls for both the client and the therapist to be as fully involved as possible. Therefore, I participate actively with my patients, sharing my thoughts, impressions, and reactions to what we are talking about. I believe that people can change even long-standing patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior if THEY participate actively. My job is to create a space where clients can be curious and learn about the ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that they bring to their lives, and about how these ways work for them and against them. I create this space by bringing both my professional training and understanding and my human compassion, empathy, and respect. In my practice, I typically meet with people once a week; if there is a need for additional support, or if we decide together that more intense work is called for, meeting twice a week can be very useful. Even meeting once a week allows clients to develop enough comfort with me and with therapy for our work to be effective and helpful. Regarding my theoretical grounding, I have intensive training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, and Existential therapeutic approaches, and I draw from each of these as the client's situation, needs, and goals call for. Some therapists subscribe to and identify with one school of thought and apply that way of thinking and working to every client. I first work to understand each client's particular issues, needs, and style of thinking and feeling. THEN, I use the approach and methods that I believe would be most useful to that patient, and remain open to using whatever else might work based on what develops. Therefore, my orientation is eclectic, and my methods are determined by the client's personality and needs.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Virginia. Born and raised in Iowa, I attended Iowa State University, graduating with a double major in Child, Adult, and Family Services and Spanish. I have traveled and lived in many places throughout the world, and have developed an appreciation for the differences we all have, but also the similarities that unite us. I received my master’s degree from Rutgers University. In my 18 years of work experience, I have worked supporting children, adolescents, and families. That experience includes working with trauma, depression, anxiety, school related anxiety and refusal, conflict between parents and children, involvement in the juvenile justice system, immigration stress and trauma, and crisis intervention. I have experience in child and adolescent therapy, family therapy, parenting, group therapy, and school-based mental health. I meet the child and family where they are on their journey and works collaboratively to develop realistic goals that will improve functioning in all environments. I utilize a strengths-based, solution-focused and family systems approach. I encourage children and families to share their culture and integrate the unique cultural experiences of families into treatment. I enjoy spending time outside, watching movies, reading books, and crocheting. I also enjoy various forms of exercise, like weightlifting and yoga. I enjoy watching (and sometimes playing) sports. I bring creativity and energy to my practice and am mindful and strategic about interventions used when working with children and families. Mental health is an important part of our being. Just like we eat food to feed our physical body, we must also get what we need to be mentally and emotionally resilient.
My communication style is warm, open, and empathetic. I strive to create a safe space where you feel comfortable expressing yourself without fear of judgment. I believe in the power of active listening and am committed to understanding your unique experiences and perspectives.
