I attack the problem and not the person. I approach therapy using people's own strengths, while challenging unhealthy thoughts, and replacing them with healthy, productive thoughts to increase optimal functioning.

When I wrote my "mission statement" 30 years ago to get into graduate school, I stated that my philosophy was "it is human nature to want to grow and change." I'm happy to say that, through my years of practice, I have found this to be true over and over again. People want to be the best they can be, and this is true, regardless of the issues that bring someone to see me in the first place. Whether it's depression, self-esteem, relationship issues, or just plain dissatisfaction with life - I believe in our ability to grow and change, and it's my job to help people come to believe that about themselves. This approach creates a safe environment where it is OK to explore and learn, and to consequently grow. Receiving professional help is healthy, self-caring behavior, regardless of the issues you are dealing with.
Mission Statement: I believe that we all have inner wisdom and it is a matter of learning how to access it. I emphasize personal growth and well-being for individuals, families, and communities of all ethnicities, cultures, races, genders, sexual orientations, abilitydisability levels, socioeconomic statuses, ages, sizes, and any other identities.
I help people recover from trauma. I know what it's like to wake up every day feeling disconnected and afraid. I know the depression, anxiety, and confusion that accompany surviving a traumatic experience. I know that it takes time to understand what you've been through; that it was real, it wasn't imagined, and that any damage done was not of your own making. I also know that healing is possible. It is possible for you to feel confident and safe in your own body. To trust yourself, and have faith in your choices. To know that you are not your past, you are already whole and complete, and YOU are the expert on your own life. Together, we will combine clinical knowledge, intuitive wisdom, and life experience (both yours and mine), for a deeply personal & individualized treatment approach. The more we understand ourselves and our behavior, the more we are able to recognize what works and what doesn't. This helps get us back into the driver's seat of our own lives. I remember the sensation of knowing that something was wrong, but not being able to name it. With the help of a therapist, I was able to recover from years of childhood sexual trauma and regain control of my own life. Whether you are seeking treatment for yourself, your relationship, your family or someone else, I am here and I can help.
I have been practicing therapy since 2013. I have worked with teens and their families as the lead clinician in outpatient settings. I am currently focused on supporting clients in addressing concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, parenting problems, anger management, stress, substance abuse, attachment and complex trauma. My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I believe each client is the expert in their own life and I seek to assist clients in finding the best solutions for their concerns. I am straightforward and believe change can be scary and difficult and I am here to confront the issues contributing to the difficulties you are facing. My approach primarily combines cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, solution focused, and behavioral modification counseling. I believe each client and each situation is unique and therefore I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I am so proud of you for taking this step to enrich and empower yourself to meet your goals in life. I genuinely hope I can help you along this path to success and I believe you can accomplish anything you set your mind to doing.
I have 22 years experience working productively with people of diverse backgrounds, ages, and sexual orientations. Our job together is to identify dysfunctional patterns that contribute to—even perpetuate—your difficulties. The main focus of therapy is to remove inner and outer obstacles that prevent you from reaching your goals and having better relationships. My approach is supportive, empathetic and, above all, pragmatic. While understanding the past is essential, change can only occur in the present. I will challenge you to be an active partner in therapy and to work toward ongoing insight, growth, and positive change both in and outside of sessions. My experience ranges from psychotherapy with adults, teens, and couples to counseling trauma survivors with acute PTSD. Whether you seek to make a major change, overcome a life blow or obstacle, or to break a chronic pattern, I will meet you where you are at. Please note that after years of counseling and assessment in offices, I‘ve recently moved into a different space: video. Active listening in a safe, private setting is foundational to this work. I’ve learned that the catalytic elements of good therapy can thrive via video too.
I commonly see people with concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and grief. In a session, we will look at what you are hoping to get from the counseling experience and collaboratively discover what will work for your situation, which may involve getting unstuck from emotional andor behavioral issues. My orientation includes considering our relationships in life. We will take into account relational factors, which may include environments, people, culture, expectations, and roles. The therapy process may assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of your values and skills toward transformative change. I also specialize in couples counseling (communication, trust, and infidelity) through self-pay only. In couples counseling, I do not take sides. I am trained and skilled in seeing relational dynamics, and we will move toward building a better connection between you and your loved one. I have been in practice for over 25 years. My process assures that your ideas will be respected; I provide a non-judgmental space to explore concerns. I see clients through a computer, laptop, tablet, or cellphone and use a high-quality platform to ensure a good connection and a smooth process. Paperwork is completed over the device and signed electronically.
